My daughter is 1 and a half and today I took the dog outside and it went potty outside and finished then we came inside and the dog went off somewhere and my daughter followed it I was in the kitchen she comes and looks grossed out and points to her tongue I look in her mouth and there is nothing there but I get that disgusting smell then I go searching and find poop on the floor and I knew she had put it in her mouth I dnt know if she ate some or spit it out after being grossed out. But now I feel bad for letting he dog out of my sight and even worse that she put it in her mouth. So if she gonna be ok? Do Icall her dr? Any of your kids do this? And I'm hating that dog so much right now... But ugh it's my fault.. I am still gagging jut thinking I feel so bad I wanna put some dog poop in my mouth so I won't feel bad..

ETA
I brushed her teeth twice an I'm tempted to wash it with soap but of course I won't but it's just so gross

You should have a fecal sample checked by your veterinarian on your dog. You should also discuss a parasite check or prevention with her pediatrician. Many pediatricians are really not familiar with zoonotic diseases and roundworms in dogs (minor annoyance to dogs) can cause serious problems in kids.

I had a friend call poison control once because her daughter ate duck poop - she was so freaked out and the poison control person just chuckled, looked up some info for her, and told her everything would be find. Watch your daughter for a few days, see if her appetite changes, or if she is obviously ill, otherwise don't stress. This will be a story for the baby book!

my sister. the little girl my mom babysat. my aunt. this happens all the time. the only thing i would think you'd have to worry about is if your dog has a type of worm.

So gross! My daughter ate half a guinea pig poop (it covered her mouth like chocolate). I thought I was going to puke swishing my finger in there to clean it out. She survived... I'm guessing your daughter will be okay. So sorry that happened. Isn't it so gross?!!

as long as your dog is up to date on his monthly worming meds she should be fine. the thing you need to worry about is ecoili (sp). if she spikes a fever or starts having the runs/vomiting get her in asap.

I remember when me and my sisters were younger, I walked outside and my sisters were sitting outside next to a pile of cow poop (We live on a dairy farm). One of them dared the other one to stick her hand in it... So she did. Then the other one dared the first one to taste it... So she did! I was way too grossed out to stop them and ran inside screaming.

They both survived. Lol

she will be fine...it's not like she ate 5 lbs of it...

since she's one you can't help her gargle with hydrogen peroxide...but just brush her teeth, wash her hands well...as gross as it is, she'll be fine!!

Well, hopefully she didn't develop a taste for it.
Ewww.
One of my friend's kids ate bunny poop and she freaked and raced him to the ER.
He was no worse for wear. The bad thing was that he apparently didn't mind the taste too much because he was always trying to get his hands on the bunny poop.
She got rid of the bunny.
I'm sure your little girl will be fine.

Hang in there!

just wanted to share. my dad ate poop out of a can (they use to pick it up way back in the day). my brother would find small frogs or lizards and suck on them until all that was left were the bones! our daughter picked up poop and brought it to my hubby. its totally gross but its ok. i hope your daughter will be fine.

Obviously GROSS but s*** happens, as they say! Poor kid, poor you! A friend of mine had the same thing happen, when her daughter was the same age. The girl is now 25 and her mama still brings it up! In a ha-ha way of course. I think calling doc was the right thing. Don't punish the poor dog...not his fault at all.

YES, call the doctor. If she gets sick later and you have to explain "I didn't call because I figured she'd be OK," how will that make you feel? Ask the doctor exactly what to watch for; how long to watch for it (if she picked up E. coli, which can be very serious in young kids, when would symptoms start? 24 hours? A week?....); whether, as someone else noted, to test the dog's feces for worms that she could pick up, etc. I might also call the vet and ask what there is in dog feces that humans can pick up if they ingest it. It's better to have the information and be prepared if she gets ill than to wait for her to get ill and then start figuring out possibilities. Good luck. Most likely she will be OK, but information gives you some power over your fears right now.

Oh goodness! I'm sorry that happened! I'm sure she's not the first or the last kid to do this! I would watch for any signs of being sick and maybe call an after hrs nurse line just to be sure...

Welcome to parenting a toddler! You need to watch them every second at this age, they will eat everything! I'm sure she will be fine though.

When my oldest was about that age I left the room for a second and came back to find the dog and the baby eating the diaper rash cream. oh yum! I called poison control and they said there was nothing to worry about. It's funny now, but I was a little freaked then. I bet she didn't get much of it, probably tasted too gross!

I also know of a toddler that ate a fuzzy black caterpillar, he was also fine!
