My Baby Is Sooo Happy! Maybe a Little to Happy!?

I have an 11 month old daughter that is very vocal. I mean she is constantly making noises. Yes this is good, but she is a screamer..lol She screams soooo loud that it literally causes you to cover your ears. She is just so happy, and no matter what emotion she is feeling she screams. So my question to all you moms is. Does anyone else has a baby that screams all the time?? :)

What can I do next?

I think all kids go through this when they find their little voices. And then realize they can have BIG voices.
It usually just settles down.
When my kids did that, I just began whispering to them. Amazingly, they'd be quiet because they couldn't hear me.

She should outgrow it.

Oh yes... mine does that too. He's 7 months old. I've just found letting go of the irritation and applauding him usually gets him to stop. Hang in there

yes... both my kids did that. Babies do that.
It is developmental based.
No worries.
She is 'expressing' herself.... and she is in line with normal developmental stages.

I recommend the book: "What To Expect The First Year." or What To Expect, The Toddler Years."
Both can be found anywhere at any bookstore, or online like at Amazon or even E-bay.

all the best,
Susan

You have to teach them that screaming is not appropriate behavior. I would just whisper to my daughter, while covering my ears, "you are hurting mommy's ears."

Mine did this- for him it was screeching. I always said he sounded like a pteradactyl or something. It was a pretty short lived phase, and now I actually miss it. He just loved hearing himself make that sound, especially when it echoed. :)

My son doesn't scream all the time, but he does scream when he's happy or excited about something. I think it's normal, especially when kids are non-verbal and don't have the words to express their feelings.

my dd is just shy of 11 months ans has been a screamer since about 7 months. and at times its piersing I just tell her to lower her voice and speak to her quietly. I never tell her to be quiet i love that she is boisterous I am also when I am passionate about something.

LOL My oldest did that between 9-11 months or so :) She would scream and be so happy. Whats funny is me and her would be outside at my moms house and she and I would have screaming contests and start giggleing :) It was so much fun bc we would laugh and just have so much fun. She tries to do it now but thankfully she has learned to quiet it down since her sister was born :) Be thankful for these moments bc one day you look at them and try to figure out how they grew so fast. My oldest is 20 months but it feels like yesterday I was in the hospital with her and I know it will only get worse... Just try to enjoy it bc when you look back your going to miss this...

It will only last for a little while , it's while they are learning to change the sounds of the noises they make and volume. I know it is ear piercing but trust me it won't last too long , and in my experience girls are much more high pitched that boys , I'm surprised I am not deaf from my 2 girls.

Girls are more vocal than boys, and sanguines are more vocal than any of the other temperaments (which are 'phlegmatics', 'cholerics', and 'melancholies', & 'supines' -- in case you want to look them up). I am a sanguine, myself, so I know (and all those around me do, too -- and have for almost 53 years, now ; ) I'd say this is the deal with your daughter. She'll probably need lots of praise and affirmation to keep her bouyed up throughout her life. Criticism will deflate and deject her (I also know this from experience).

(P.S. My kids [now 22, 24, 30, & 33) always loved making noise in a big public bathroom where everything echoed. LOL)

Yep, very normal! (mine are well past the baby years and I now MISS that cute screeching, ha ha) On a side note...if this should continue for a length of time you might want to do as a prev. poster suggested: get her hearing checked. A friend of mine has a son who has partial deafness and my friend couldn't believe that she didn't pick up on it earlier. NOT TO SCARE YOU! LOL That is a real long-shot but bears mentioning so you can keep that in the back of your mind. :) (it's just a phase, tho I'm sure!) Enjoy that age...I miss it so much! :)

Try to teach her to show her happiness in another way without discouraging HAPPINESS. Clapping her hands. Kissing. Saying "Happy!"

Get earplugs. And talk to her quietly, or even whisper. This stage will pass.

After reading some of the replies, I'm so grateful. My child never went through a phase like this. Good luck getting through it.
