My 6 Year Old Lost Her Front Top Tooth and Gum Looks Scary

My daughter lost one of her top 2 teeth last night and it took some gum with it. Rather than a "straight" gum line across, there's a pretty big chip out above the regular line. This tooth had been injured as a toddler several times so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it. I'm wondering if the gum will fill-in with time or not. I kind of assume it will but would love to hear reassurance that people have had this happen and it turned out fine without a gum graft or something like that. Her bottom teeth didn't have that issue. It looks scary now (though of course we didn't say anything to her)

What can I do next?

I've never really seen a "nice-looking" gumline gap! LOL

Seriously, just let the dentist check it out at her next visit.

I don't have the stomach for the gaping gum holes -- it just makes my stomach SQUIRM~anyone else?

I would call the dentist's office. Doesn't hurt to get an expert's opinion on this.

I couldnt even stand to look at my own missing teeth nor my childrens.. haha... so I totally know what you mean Denise!
Her gum will most likely be fine tho.. mouth tissue fixes itself really fast. Think how many times you've bitten your tounge ... look ma no scars.

I developed a freckle on my top gums last year and decided to get rid of it in case it developed into something later. They had to cut out a huuuuuge chunk of my gums to take it out, but they sewed it back together. I think it will grow back, but you may want to ask a dentist or gum specialist if it needs to be sewn together to be smoother. Sounds like it shouldn't be important, but it wouldn't be great to be an older kid with funny gums. I wouldn't want that. Hope this helps!

I think it would be the same as if you voluntarily did an extraction and they had to cut your gum. I believe it will grow back.
