His feet are really bad. They are red, peeling, cracking, bleeding and they have a bad odor. I have never had or seen athete's foot. But from what I have heard about it that is what it seems like. I am putting Triamcinolon on them but its not working. He is always complaning that his feet hurt. I also make sure that he has dry socks on. Do any of you moms out there have a sujestions on what I can do to help him.

What can I do next?

My son had the same problem. He has eczema issues so I thought that is what it was..plus he wears crocks all the time and I thought it could be from sweat and the rubber. Well..nothing really cleared it up..so I took him to the doc and it was athletes foot. They gave us some meds. and it cleared up. If you have used stuff for athletes foot and it didn't work...then I would think it either isn't strong enough for his problem...or he has something else going on. I would just take him into the doc and get to the bottom of it so it can be taken care of.

Good Luck!!!

If you have tried OTC remedies (there are a few different types--it sounds like you've tried one), then it is time to go to the Dr. It may be far enough along that you need the Dr. any way. My son had and still has this problem on occasion. You also need to watch what he eats. Anything with sugar or yeast can promote the body chemistry that fungus thrives in. Also make sure you get him new shoes and bleach his socks to get all the fungus/bacteria as part of the treatment. Good Luck!

Sounds painful!

If they are bleeding and have a bad odor, he might have an infection. Maybe he needs a doctor visit to rule this out or some stronger than over the counter meds to heal them.

Have you tried the spray for athlete's foot? My husband had it and then gave it to my daughter. Her skin was peeling around her toes and she said they hurt. They didn't bleed or crack or stink. If he can go without socks too, and wear sandals, that helps to dry out his feet.

Take him into a dermotologist or his pediatrician.
Sounds like Athletes foot but make sure it is isn't a bacterial infection of any kind.
Kids get wet feet and that and soggy shoes can reek havoc on their feet. I would take him in as soon as possible though as they can better diagnose and treat it. Aquaphor works great on cracked and painful skin. You can put it on at night and have him wear socks so it doesn't wipe off.
Hugs!

Hi M.! I just had a similar problem with my daughter, and the best advice is to get it accurately diagnosed, as different conditions require different treatments. Athlete's foot tends to show between the toes, but if it's just on the soles, it's probably something else. (Eczema for example). My daughter just had sweaty feet, so dr recommended hydrocortisone cream when it was really bad, and then let them air dry as much as possible. A moisturizer at night (I used Arbonne's baby lotion) and it got better. Hope this helps your little boy!

I don't know if Rigby has a health food store (when I was at Ricks it seemed to me that's a tiny town!), but if you can, get some comfrey ointment to put on them. Also, make sure he is hydrated with pure, fresh water. Unless it is itching him and there are little blisters all over, I doubt it's athletes foot. It sounds like there's infection if there's a smell. It could be psoriasis, eczema or a fungus. Have your doctor check it if you are really worried, and give the ointment a try. I've seen it work miracles. Also, if he's bleeding and there are open sores, DON"T put anything acidic on the feet. You'd see your little guy jump 5 feet off the ground and raise the sound level in your home. Tea tree would be great, it's soothing and healing. Peppermint might burn, too, with open sores.

M. M,
Renew Intesive Skin Care lotion will work wonders, it is 7x's more effective than Eucerin, it has helped my daughter with excema, my husband with ankle & foot rashes-dry-cracked feet. It has been the best for allergies as well from irratants. We have been Melaleuca customers for 5 years and they have the only true green products out there, they save us about $250 a month on a household of 5 and we do refer people to shop there everychance we get. Just like Costco you have a membership, but you don't buy in bulk, you just buy what you need in your home, you don't like something they refund it down to the empty bottle, you want to try the membership 4 months, decide it helped you sons feet but you don't want to keep shopping there, get a full refund. You may also cancel your membership at anytime, this has been the best for us, we shop straight from the manufacture.

I would take him to the doctor. This physical ailment is way past the "guessing" stage.

Hi, this is what the army does for feet like that. One cup vinager, one capfull of scope mouth rinse, and as warm water as you can stand. Soak his feet twice a day for at lease 15-30 min. This will help. I have used this myself and it works. Good luck. At first it doesn't feel good, but keep it there and it will help.

Hi M. - sounds like it's time for a visit to the doctor for an accurate diagnosis. If the steroid cream is not working, then you should discontinue it. If he does have a fungal infection, a steroid cream is the wrong thing to use anyway.

If it's eczema or just severly dry skin, I found that Premium Triple Cream made by Triple Paste makes a very effective eczema cream that can be used on kids and babies. It's what I use when I have a flare. You can find it in the baby aisle with the diaper ointments. Dry his feet well after his bath and then apply the cream liberally to both feet and then put socks on. It's very greasy but also very soothing.

Best of luck to your son!

My son also started with feet problems around that age. My father recommended OTC Desenex powder. It comes in a yellow powder bottle, by the foot care isle in Walmart. I figured it couldn't hurt, and it worked wonders. My son has sweaty feet, and in the winter time his feet get extra wet due to weather, and staying in wet shoes at school. I tried to send an extra pair of socks for him to change into at school, but an 8 year old doesn't plan ahead. I actually put the powder right into his socks. I also make him rotate his shoes, so they have time to dry out in between uses. We have been doing this for 3 years on and off as needed.

I do agree with others if this doesn't help see a dermatologist.

Triamcinolone is not going to work. That is more for eczema like conditions.

Athlete's feet is a fungus. You need an anti-fungal creme or some spray/powder that you can put on his feet. Always wash his feet and thoroughly dry them daily (even if he doesn't bathe daily).

You may also want to try some Vick's Vapo Rub on his feet. I know that sounds crazy, but it has sure helped my feet (I have dry, cracked heals). You need to rub the Vicks on every night before bed and put fresh clean socks on him.

Oh and btw...his feet really do hurt bad, trust me. I have had sleepless nights because of the pain of my feet just due to the dry cracked heels.

Good luck to you.

I would highly recommend you take your son to a podiatrist who can correctly identify what's going on with his feet.

If they are that bad, I would just flat out call the pediatrician. If its athletes foot, its a bad case. You shouldn't put any topical cream on broken skin. Anyway, thats what I would do!

Take your son to the doctor, he probbaly needs some prescription medication for his feet. To prevent a re-occurance of this, let his feet be uncovered at home and make sure he has good quality, dry socks on when he needs to wear shoes. Feed him yogurt with active cultures on a regular basis to help prevent further problems with yeast (which causes athelete's foot and other problems). You can even put some anti-fungal cream on his feet preventitivly when he is not showing symptoms. Good luck!
