My son 2 weeks ago was molested by a 14 neighbor in our neighborhood. The little boy WAS a good friend of my families, he was in our life daily. He eat Christmas dinner with us and then exchanged gifts with my kids. So he was always at my house swimming with my kids daughter 8 and son 5. At first he hung more with my daughter then in the last month he went towards my son. It happened while my and my husband were in the kitchen helping our daughter with her homework. IT ONLY TOOK 10 MINUTES TO RUIN MY LIFE! The 14 left my house in a hurry, they were watching a movie in my sons room. When he left our son acted very different. The our son told us the story..... Praise God he told us with in 10 minutes so we had lots of evidence for the police. The 14 year old gave a full connfession and his DNA. I guess I have a copuple things I would like advice for and cant seem to get these answered.
1. When can i warn my neighbors? The child is in cousdty and will remian there for the next 8days, he has a dention hearing every 14 days to keep him detained, so that could change every 14 days. But he is not been convicted yet.
2. Does anyone know of any support groups for us and our kids, my husband is struggling, lost over 14 pounds and cant sleep or eat. He is so imcreadbly angry.
We start threapy this week but I think he needs other dads who have been through this, because he doesnt want any of our family or friends to know about this.
3. How long is it untill we go to the real trial and this is behind us? Being the juvi system we cant find out much info.
4. Did you all know the public schools can not keep these kids out of school? Just talk to your kids!! Check your schools policy's I know for us it is in Code of Conduct section. Mom's Please tell your kids that people that hurt little kids could be their friends, family, & neighbors. These people that hurt kids are not BIG SCARY MONSTERS!! They are people we love! Any thing I can share is Talk to your babies, tell them everyday you love them and learn from other moms trials. Cherish every moment with them, my son is not even the same kid right now. I am not the same mom, I am scared of everyone and i am trying to not instill that in my kids, but this world is sick!I want to protect them but not terrify.??

What can I do next?

I am so sorry to hear about this! It made me cry when I read it. This is, in no way, yours or your husband's fault! I commend your son for being honest enough to tell you and your husband; and commend both you and your husband for letting the authorities handle the situation. I do advise that you speak to your neighbors, especially those that have young children. Your counselor will be able to give you the names of support groups in the area. I'm sorry I don't have any wise advice or words that will comfort you enough. Counseling will definitely help everyone put the pieces back together. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers! If I come across a support group, I'll pass the info along to you.

God Bless!

I really dont have any answers to your questions but just wanted to tell you how sorry I am that you are going through this. This is horrible and I am happy to hear though that your son was brave enough to tell you what happened so soon. It will pass and because of your families love and communication yall will get past this. I am sorry you or anyone would have to go through all of this but you and your family are in my prayers.

K.,

I am so sorry! My sisters were molested by our stepfather. You should have already told your neighbors. Molesters have power because people have a tendency to hide and keep this a secret. Your son did nothing shameful, in fact he was very brave coming to you and telling. It is not your son's shame! It is the molesters shame. There is a fine line in protecting and over protecting. I would discreetly tell people with children. Be as nice about it as possible. I am sure you don't want to hear this but I am sure his parents are hurting as well. Another tip for all parents, your children's playmates should never be more than a couple of years older. Unfortunately molesters don't wear signs. God bless you and keep you. CB

My heart goes out to you and your family. The Dell Children's Hospital should be able to give you some referrals for support groups for your family. Try the social services dept.
The main thing is that you are getting your family into therapy, and you have a strong marriage. Thank God your son told you about it. Of course your husband is incredibly angry! I do not know much about legalities, but stay on it with the juvenile justice system. I wonder about this kid's family? Have they talked to you? Stay strong, and God bless.
