It's possible she had a tummy ache as a result of drinking milk or it didnt taste right etc. Maybe she's developing some lactose intolerance. Kids are quick to make associations like that and they tend to be lasting ones. My 4.5 yo son decided he didnt like milk at all - it happened around 2. He will drink a little here and there but we don't push it. Thankfully he will eat other dairy just not milk.

If you give her plenty of calcium and Vit D rich foods, she will still be healthy even w/o drinking milk.

My 4 y/o is a finicky eater, and the foods that she likes/hates change from day to day. I think it is just an age thing, although it is frustrating! Don't worry about it.

I would just give her some yogurt, cheese or other dairy and let it go. At 4 years old, they don't HAVE to have milk. Their diets are pretty complete without it. Give her a balanced diet and a vitamin and don't make a big issue out of it. She is making it a control issue. Don't play along and she'll likely give up the strike before you know it.

So, she does not like milk, tastebuds change/develop and progress constantly. I used to drink milk as a kid then one day I stopped liking it ... it happens. I used to gag at the scent of fish now it is a craving. There are plenty of other ways to get the dairy. BTW have you ever been "burnt out" on a food or food group?

My daughter is 4 and suddenly doesn't really like the taste of milk so we switched her to soy milk. No biggie!

My daughter went through the same thing about that age. She loved milk and then one day just decided she pretty much didn't like it. It is fine, she does not have to have milk. There are plenty of other foods that provide the nutrients milk does. Our ped had no issue with her not drinking milk. She will drink an occasional glass of milk now though, maybe once a week or so.

My 4 year old changes his mind about the food he eats almost every week. He loves Pizza, he hates Pizza, He hates pasta, he can't get enough pasta. He loves yogurt, the yogurt is too lumpy,... get the picture? I'm so used to this that I'm never surprised.

My four yr old used to drink more milk (not 4 cups but more than now) and then we went on a car trip where she threw up a couple of times and then she didn't want it after that. We were surprised but got over it. She drinks it occasionally now but prefers water (so do i) but will have it in cereal, oatmeal, choc milk.... Like the others, she also gets it string cheese and she loves broccoli.. so I am not too worried about it. I think you might never know why it happened (maybe she tasted some sour milk, maybe she just decided she didn't like it, maybe it gave her a tummyache one day, who knows?) but my guess is that she'll either eventually start drinking it again or she won't. Either way, she'll be fine. I would always give her an option when you serve her - water or milk? (don't make juice an option) and she might eventually turn back to milk. Good luck!

Up intil my son was going to school, he NEVER drank milk. I talked to his doctor and he said it is fine as long as he eats milk in other ways. He ate cheese quesadillas, lots of yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. I fould that he had a lot of dairy in his diet, so as long as your child is eating/drinking it in other forms its fine. When they go to school and see that there are a ton of other kids drinking it, she wil start up again

I have a 4 year old and he only drinks about 2 cups a day now but it's 2 %. As long as he's getting yogart, string cheese I don't worry. I she is too than it's ok but be sure to check with her pediatrician when he returns. Good luck.

stand firm & don't let her take charge. The more you try to accommodate her whims....the more outrageous they'll get. Good Luck!

I think kids sometimes suddenly would hate eating or drinking what they love all of a sudden. My son is 13 months old and hated milk from day one. I am lucky to get a couple of ounces in him in a day. He loves yogurt and cheese so I give him those and my ped isn't concern that he doesn't drink milk either as long as he is eating other dairies. My son also take a liquid multivitamin. You daughter is old enough to take a chewable vitamin if you are worry about her not taking enough milk, at least that's what my ped told me to do when I told her that my son doesn't like milk.

Yes, my older daughter did the same thing one day out of the blue. She never went back. She even drinks water with her Pb&J sandwiches (yuck). It's alright, milk isn't a necessity.

My son went through a phase where he complained about the same thing...we ended up making sure it was just really cold and he got over it. Plus, the rule at our house is that you don't leave the table until you finish your milk. Eat or don't eat (kitchen is closed after dinner), but you HAVE to finish your milk. Most days it's fine, but every once in a while it's a struggle. I was the same way, but am so thankful my parents made me have milk at dinner each night. It was good for me and I'm sure it's why, to this day, I still have milk at dinner each night. Good for me now too!

My pediatrician actually told us to limit milk to 2 cups a day once the children turned 1 so that they would eat other food & not fill up on milk. If you think about it, no other species drinks milk once they've stopped nursing from their mothers - and they certainly don't drink the milk of another animal! There are lots of other sources for calcium - I wouldn't worry about it and I wouldn't get in the habit of adding chocolate or sugar.
