My 17 month old daughter has had a really bad diaper rash for about a week now at least and I can't seem to get rid of it. She had a fever for about 4 hours a week ago and the diaper rash and the fever went away right away. She still has the diaper rash and now has a rash on her chest and the very top of her back. She also has a red spot on her eye lid. Does anyone know what this could be or how to treat it...I need some suggestions. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the wonderful responses. I wrote this the morning before I took her to the doctor and was just wanting other opinions too. She has a yeast infection and was put on a prescription cream with a follow up appt. I have also gotten a couple of the creams suggested for future diaper rashes before they get this bad. Thanks again to everyone for the wonderful suggestions!

My son had diaper rash so badly that I had to take him to a dermatologist. Luckily, I had an in with the head of Dermatology at children's memorial. He told me to get Sensicare protective barrier cream. It is over the counter, but you have to order it from the pharmacy. I went to target, they ordered it, and I got it in two days. Works like a charm!! Twelve dollars.

Well, my 13 month old is battling diaper rash since last week, too. He's getting like 4 teeth in at once and he always gets a fever and a rash when he does. Our first son was the same way.

Things that work for us for diaper rash:
Aquaphor mixed with Desitin
Frequent changes
Bath every night and air drying with some corn starch on his butt

At this point, if it's spreading I'd be calling the doctor to get something to help fight it and to make sure it's not something else.

Good luck.

For the diaper rash try Triple Paste, which you can find at Target....it is the best diaper rash cream. The rash on her back and chest are probably due to the fever and possibly called roseola (I think this is how it spelled). But, if it does not go away soon, I would talk to your pediatrician. For a pediatrician, I like Lake Forest Pediatrics, with offices located in Lake Forest, Vernon Hills and Lindenhurst. The doctors in this practice that I use for my girls are Dr. Cynthia Chou and Dr. Kristina Keating. They are both excellent in my opinion. Good luck! Let me know if you have any further questions. My e-mail address is ____@____.com (WM of 2 girls, 5 and 2)

It could be a reaction to products you are using. But, you should inquire with a pediatrican. Not sure where you live, but we are happy with our's in the Wilmette area. Also ...

I represent Arbonne International and I will be honest in saying one of the reasons I decided to do this business was because my kids had excema/rashed and these products were recommended, they work! They are plant based;gentle on baby/children's skin! 45-day return if not successful, not found in retail stores, just thru consultants.

Go to my site, then to Products, then to Baby (ABC line).

Happy to help if interested,

The only thing that we ever found to work on diaper rashes was Aquaphor. It is a bit expensive but it is definetely worth it. At the slightest hint of redness we use it and by the next diaper change it is all healed up.

You may want to take your little one to the doctor because it could be something other than your "ordinary" diaper rash. A rash all over would definetely be something I would have my doctor look at.

It could be a yeast infection or strep (both causes of rashes for my son). If you're looking for a pediatrician, I highly recommend Willow Oak Pediatrics in Antioch/Libertyville.
