My 1 Year Old Has White Poop After Switching to Whole Milk

My son turned 1 and switched over to whole milk on October 29. Since then his poop has been an off-white color. It's soft but not liquid. Do I need to call his doctor? Should I be worried?

What can I do next?

White stool, usually is a not good thing.

My breastfed kids, never had had white poop, after having had the switch to Whole Milk.

You should be, calling the Pediatrician.
This has been going on, since October 29th.

Yes, call the Dr. My Dr. told me whitish poop, is never a good thing. I've personally never heard of milk turning poop white, but I'm not a Dr.

Don't worry, because you don't know if there is anything to worry about. It's just something that deserves attention...just in case.

I don't like the sound of this. I would definitely talk to the ped and take a "fresh" stool sample in. I wouldn't let this wait. This may actually not have anything to do with change in milk - it could be an issue with the liver and bile duct. And that could be life threatening.

Please get him to the doctor!

It is not normal to have white stools, might mean liver isn't functioning properly. Does he eat solid foods? Some foods will cause different color of stool, but bile is necessary for proper digestion and will give color to stool. You need to contact the Dr. One or two times, not so much of a concern, but over two weeks, I would say, major concern!

The following is a statement from Wikipedia about bile:
In the absence of bile, fats become indigestible and are instead excreted in feces, a condition called steatorrhea. Feces lack their characteristic brown color and instead are white or gray, and greasy.[2] Steatorrhea can lead to deficiencies in essential fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins. In addition, past the small intestine (which is normally responsible for absorbing fat from food) the gastrointestinal tract and gut flora are not adapted to processing fats, leading to problems in the large intestine.

Needs to be checked out for sure!

It's normal. Our poop takes on the color of our food. It's my guess he's drinking more milk and soft foods than he's eating foods with a lot of color. Eating lots of carrots will give poop an orange tone. Eating lots of spinach gives the poop a dark color. Milk is white as are bananas, eggs, rice cereal, mashed potatoes, etc. Even if he's eating carrots they're in smaller amounts than all the "white" foods.

However, I would call the doctor to relieve your mind. Whitish poop can mean other things. It's always good to call the doctor with these sort of questions.

White poop isn't good...and shouldn't be because he's drinking milk. I'd call the doctor.

Well milk will turn poop a yellowish color. Yes, food intake does alter the color of poops and sometimes it's a weird color transition! If it's more yellowish than white, it's probably fine. My son drinks a lot of milk and at the beginning I was noticing it more in poops than I do now, so it probably is just from the recent transition.
