Hello all,
Has anyone used the Muzzy Language DVD/CD set and what has been your experience? I am interested in introducing French to my 3 1/2 year old daughter and wonder if Muzzy would be the way to start. Incidentally, I do not speak French.

you can rent this from the library and try it for free! If you library doesn't have it put in a request for them to get it from another one.

Many DVDs have multi-language tracks (Disney is good for that.) When my kids were young enough not to protest, I'd put on cartoons in Spanish for them. I doubt a child can learn the language from any kind of recording, but it is nice to familiarize them with the sounds.

We took our children to France two summers ago when they were 7, 7, 5 and 1.5 years old. We wanted to introduce them to the language, and we found Muzzy to be a wonderful way to do that! We also scoured the library for French language songs and stories, which they also enjoyed. I can't say they were able to carry on a conversation while we were there, but they felt very confident ordering "un croissant" and pointing out familiar names on signs and in overheard conversations. I would definitely recommend Muzzy--good luck!

I uses Muzzy with my 4 yr old and we like it. She has not learned the language and we have been watching the movie but not doing the workbooks for a long time. She likes them. I checked them out from the Naperville library to see what I thought of them. You could probably get your library to do an inerlibrary loan if they don't have them for you to view.

I've never used that but I use Little Pim French DVDs for my baby and he likes those. Something more cartoony would be even better.

I invested in the Irish (Gaelic) language set when my first child was born; at that time, it was just VHS. There were two English, two Irish cassettes in the kit, and a script in English and Irish. We primarily watched the Irish cassettes, maybe a couple times a week at most, since they got bored with the same story line. I wanted them to hear native speakers, but the two tapes running the same story each time got a little old once they realized the plot, which is about a King, Queen, silly Princess, a gardener and an evil computer wizard, Corvax, who is pretty creepy! It was like watching a really basic Sesame Street, in Irish, circa 1980.

I know that our local library carries the Spanish and French complete Muzzy sets. Perhaps you could check them our from your library (or request on inter-library loan) before you invest in the set, which is expensive.

I bought ours since it was rare to find VHS in Irish that we could play on American machines, but there are probably lots of great French kids DVD's out there that are more up-to-date and cost way less than Muzzy!

I tried the Muzzy program for my children. I ordered the Spanish set and it was terrible. My children refused to watch it. It was so hard to understand what they were saying. The sound was very muffled and they talk way too fast. I thought maybe I just had a bad DVD so I requested that they send me a new one which they did and it was the same thing. I ended up sending it back and getting my money back.
I really wished it would work especially for the price and I was very disappointed when it didn't. Sorry I didn't have better news!
