I would say, very. They do not totally replace a nutritious, well rounded diet. But it's a good habit to get into and they can help round out any nutrients or vitamins that may be lacking... which most children's diets are.

kids do not eat nutritiously, and if they did one day it wouldn't be everyday! Multivitamins are important, but you need to be careful about them. The FDA rated many children's vitamins and found lead in them. You can check it out here - http://toxicfreecleaners.blogspot.com/2009/03/lead-in-chi...

I would say essential unless your child eats a near perfect diet.
Research ShakleeKids, the most safe and effective supplements you can get.
Like Mimi mentioned about store bought vitamins--most do more harm than good. Shaklee actually published a Landmark Study showing this to be true for adult vitamins, too. People who took no supplements were healthier than those that took a synthetic one.

Very important in my household. My oldest used to fight me on taking them until she felt herself coming down with a cold the other day. Needless to say, she was grabbing the vitamins before leaving out for her bus. (She's 9).

We use Oligo.

I would say some are better than none. I haven't done the research as many have we just do the normal ones you get OTC.
Talk to you dr about what you should give them, they can give you info or a NP or a pharmacist but that is mostly OTC stuff as well.

Hi K.,

It depends. Some low grade vitamins (e.g. Flintstones) are actually dangerous because they create free radicals. Free radicals cause oxidation in the body, thus the need for antioxidants, and are the reason we have major disease and cancers today. Good multivitamins are essential because of the lack of nutrition in the foods we eat today. The pesticides and preservatives contradict the benefits of the vitamins and minerals.. The comparative list of ingredients doesn't guarantee that you recieve everything they claim is in it.

My recommendation for a multi is Koala Pals which is guaranteed to absorb and also does NOT create free radicals. If you'd like some info on them, I'll be glad to send you some.

God bless..

Well considering 3/4 of all Americans don't get the proper nutrition to sustain our bodies to their maximum potential every single day... pretty darn important.

Very important. They have helped my kids. We get ours at Vitacost.com Animal Parade and are veggie based. No lead or other harmful ingredients.

I see taking vitamins as a "it can't hurt and might help" sort of thing.

I never really knew why vitamins OTC were bad and now I know why. Thanks ladies. What ingredients cause the free radicals? We do the Nordic Berries and I am going to research just how good they are (hopefully they are good).
