I really had this problem when I was pregnant. My doctor suggested taking then just before going to bed. They said it was easier for the body to absorb them when you are sleeping. It helped me.
Just wanted to know if any of you moms out there have the same trouble I do with multi-vitamins. I am doing Weight Watchers and you are supposed to take a multi-vitamin every day. I was taking One A Day Weight Smart but they make me sick to my stomach. It says to take with food which I have tried to take it right before I eat, during my meal and right after my meal and it always makes me sick. Have any of you had the same experience and found a multi-vitamin that didn't have this effect? I don't want to buy another brand and have the same thing happen. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try taking your vitamins after dinner or before bed. Years ago my doctor suggested this for vitamins or birth control pills that made me feel sick when I took them in the morning. I've taken One-A-Day for Women, along with other vitamins and supplements for years, and I don't have any problem since I started taking them at night.
It's more than likely the iron content that is making you sick. Try to find a vitamin that has low iron.
That particular one made me sick too. So now I take Nature Made with no problem. I think it's the "weight smart" part of that one that's the problem. Good Luck.

The only vitamin that did this to me was One a day Womens.
It made me throw up any time I took it w/out food. You might want to switch to a brand that's not One a day.
I currently take Prenatal vitamins for nursing my baby but I've taken them when I wasn't pregnant or nursing and never had any problems. I don't eat many veggies or fruits so I take the prenatal to get any extra vitamins I can.
Good luck to you.
How ironic - I attended a networking meeting yesterday and the topic of discussion was vitamins. From what I understand most of the over the counter vitamins are not absorbed into your system and can make you feel very sick.
I'd like to suggest that you consider the Meleluka products - they are superb! I, too, have a very sensitive stomach - please contact Carola Bradus - she is the person who I purchsae my vitamins from. She can be reached at ###-###-#### or via e-mail:____@____.com Their products are great. And - goodluck! Please tell her that N. referred you!
The multi-vitamin thing didn't work for me either, so I have had a really great experience with Vitamineral Green. It's derived from whole foods and includes probiotics and digestive enzymes which helps nutrient absorption as well as the immune system.
I take a heaping soup-spoon-full mixed in a small glass of juice. (It has a peculiar taste I wouldn't describe as "good," though my little boy has loved licking the "Green Spoon" clean ever since he was an infant!)
I've purchased it online from Amazon.com and direct from the Vitamineral Green website, so it's pretty easy to get.
This is from their site:
"Contains a full spectrum of naturally occurring, absorbable and non-toxic vitamins, minerals (including calcium) and trace minerals (including naturally colloidal and better). Contains no synthetic or isolated nutrients (not excreted as expensive yellow urine or stored as toxic deposits)."
"Also naturally occurring are all the essential amino acids (protein), antioxidants, fatty acids, chlorophyll, soluble and insoluble fibers, tens of thousands of phytonutrients, and a plethora of other synergistically bound nutrients. 100% whole food nutrition."
Some of the pitch is a little too "out there" for me, but the product is fantastic and I really do notice a difference in how I look & feel.
HTH!
Hi M.,
I totally understand you. I also would get sick with vitamins. I don't anymore with the ones I am taking right now. The good thing is that if you are not satisfied within 90 days you get your money back. I can give you more information, just respond to this message.

M.,
I have a skin care, health and wellness company.
We have an excellent vitamin for women. The packet has a multi-vitamin, 2 calcium, digestive enzyme, multimineral tablet, and antioxidants.
Fast fact: The number 2 thing found in septic tanks are undissolved vitamins.
Ours are formulated to dissolve within 30 minutes.
Our vitamins are also standarized meaning the same amount of ingredient is found in every tablet.
Our vitamins are cold compressed as opposed to heat compressed. Heat comprimses the potency of the minerals and vitamins.
If you'd like more information please let me know!
Take care and God bless!

Ok. I use Vitality Pack which has a Multi-Vitamin and Multi-Mineral. This Vitamin and Mineral have the patent pending oligofructose compounding. Our stomachs have a ph balance of 1. WHen we take a mineral - it dissolves in our stomach but what happens is that absoprtion does not occur in the stomach but in the intestine- where ph is 7. Ideally we want our systems to emulate the way a plant absorbs the nutrient from the ground. However, at ph 7, minerals crystallize- no asorbption. Then it inhibits free radical activity- so now the vitamin you took is used to counteract the free radical activity. This may be the reason you can not stomach the vitamin you took. The oligofructose compounding is a formula that helps lower the ph balance in our intestine to emulate that of how a plant absorbs the nutrient from the ground for maximum absorption. If you are interested in the literature that backs this up, please private email me.
Good luck and sorry for the long response.

You are NOT alone. The weight smart vitamins were the worst for me. I actually take a children's vitamin, because I can't take the multi-vitamins. I take calcium separately. Its better than feeling like you are going to throw up all the time. My doctor just says to take what I can handle, so that's what I do.
Hi,
Go to a vitamin store ...something like Whole Foods etc.
And ask the vitamin specialist to help you.
You should look for chleated vitamins which are usually found in powder or liquid form.
I am very sensitive to vitamins and the Whole Foods brand is the only one I have found that I can take. If whatever you get next time makes you sick, make sure you take it back to the store, and try something else.
Try Herbalifes Multivitamin. I used to take other multivitamins and they too made me queezy. Check out our products. They are much cheaper than WW and alot better. www.herbal-nutrition.net/depewdaniel Send me an email if you have questions.
