We will be moving to the S.A. area within the next couple of months. We are coming from Germany. We are looking at the Schertz/Cibolo area, more specifically. I have been looking online about the area, and schools and there is a lot of information to filter through. Does anyone have some insight on the neighborhoods/communities that are "family oriented", safe, friendly, parks/recreation areas etc? How are the schools in the Schertz/Cibolo district? What kind of child care is available? We both will be working. Any insight to the area would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want to thank EVERYONE who provided information on the Schertz/Cibolo area. I had a feeling it would be a nice area to relocate to. It will be nice to finally get there, look around and see everything. We have a few locations that we will probably look at first and then go from there. Moving is no easy task, and picking the right neighborhood is not easy, either. I feel we have a LOT of good neighborhoods to choose from! Thanks again and if anyone else has some good information on the area please feel free to send it my way, the more information the better.

I'm a realtor here in San Antonio and I am getting ready to put a home on the market in Cibolo. The neighborhood the home is in is called Bentwood Ranch. It is a really great area with a lot of new homes, community pool and playground for the kiddos. If you are looking for a realtor to help you please feel free to email me @ ____@____.com.

Welcome! My husband and I moved to Cibolo 4 years ago and have just adopted a 4 y/o and a 3 y/o. We love this area-pretty, laid back, quiet, family oriented, plus easy access to I-35 gets us to SA and Austin easliy.(You might want to have a map of the area open when you read this...)We live in one of the subdivisions off of FM 3009,Deer Creek. We love our neighborhood, good parks and community pool. My mom lives in one of the new subdivisions off of FM 1103 (Buffalo Crossing) there are lots of kids there. There is a lot of new development around here and lots of families are moving in. I was a high school teacher and I can say the public schools are fabulous. There are new elementary and middle schools in the works. The new high school (Steele on FM 1103) is just a couple of years old. The district is the 2nd highest paying in the San Antonio area so it attracts really good teachers. There is a great public library in Schertz (on Schertz Parkway) with a nice park and ball fields. Most of the housing developments have parks, many with community pools. The new Veterans Memorial park in Cibolo will be finished by the end of the year. It will be on a tract of land at the intersection of Cibolo Valley Dr. and Green Valley Dr. There are lots of houses for sale (we have a lot of military families with Randolph so close by) so you should be able to find something that works for your family. On the Schertz side of FM 3009, there are more established neighborhoods, Cibolo side the neighborhoods are newer. I don't know a lot about child care in the area because I stay at home, but I know a new day care is opening on Cibolo Valley Dr. A drop in day care recently opened in Schertz. Everything you could need is nearby...grocery, doctors, restaurants, new hotels, banks...plus we are in Guadalupe County so the taxes are lower than in Bexar county. I think I have been rambling, but I hope its helpful to you. Good luck with your move.

Great Choice!!! You are close to the Forum Shopping center and Randolph Air Force Base. Check out the BVYA website for all your youth sports. www.bvya.com they have all kinds of sports and use volunteer parents for coaches. There are lots of retired military and the schools are great! Schertz was voted #1 city to live in Texas and #40 in the US. We are building a brand new library and have a wonderful playground "THE PLAYSCAPE" right next to it for the kids.(this was built by 100% community volunteers and donations)Ther are many nice new neighborhoods and nice well established neighborhoods.

N. - We moved from Ramstein 2 years ago and looked in the Cibolo/Schertz area and found it a difficult transition coming from Germany. We opted to move to New Braunfels with is a small Germany community - still has a county fair, 4th of July parade, great parks, great pools, mature trees & good schools. We're close to Austin & SA without having to live in them. We're about 30 minutes from Randolph.

We are a military family also. We moved to New Braunfels area but, we go to church in Schertz and we have friends who live in the Schertz/Cibolo area. they love the area and the schools. My friend's son goes to Norma Paschall( I don't think I spelled it correctly) and they both love the school. All the schools seem to be good. Newer subdivision have pools and playgrounds. There is a city park that is OK, the pool is nice. As far as childcare, my friend did say it is expensive. Her other son goes to preschool/child care at the church I go to and said it is an great program and affordable. The church is First Baptist Church of Schertz. Where Schertz is located, you are close enough to go to the attractions around here. There is a lot to do and it's family-friendly. Personally, this area is a great choice. We looked at houses there but, we chose New Braunfels because it is more secluded and for the schools. Hope this was useful info.

We moved to the Cibolo area last June. My husband is in the military and we had previosuly been station here about 5 years ago. We knew when we moved back we wanted to live in the Schertz/ Cibolo area because of its location and growth. We live in a wonderful new development off of 1103 in Cibolo called Saddle Creek Ranch by Medallion Homes. We love the neighborhood, everyone is very friendly and there are loads of kids!!! We have a community rec center/ pool opening in the next few months (just in time for summer) along with a playground area and half basketball court. Our neighborhood association is very active and we have socials several times a year geared towards the children. We would love to have you as a neighbor. Welcome to the area. I am sure you will be very happy here!

Depends on where you're working. A lot of the neighborhoods along 1604 are nice, but the traffic is hideous at rush hour. You might want to try deerfield or churchill estates. some bargains can be found in shavano park and the schools are good there too.

N.,
I live in Falcon Ridge. It is a very kid/family friendly neighborhood with a lot of military. They are opening a new day care just a few minutes from our neighborhood called Kids Academy of San Antonio ( I think that is the official name) It looks like it is going to be really nice. My 7 year old son attends Watts Elementary and I have been very happy with the school etc. Good luck on the move etc.

It is a safe side of town to live in. It is really growing. Now is the time to move here before values of homes go even higher. There is plenty to do here and shops. You will never really have to travel past 5,6 miles to go everywhere you need to go.

We have lived in Cibolo for just over a year. We live in the Willow Pointe community and our school age child goes to Green Valley Elementary. This is a fabulous school district! We have been impressed with everything regarding the schools. Also, most everything is close, grocery store and Wal-Mart and Lowes Hardware are 5 minutes away, the Forum shopping center which has everything else (Target, Kohls, Old Navy, Linens N Things, Home Depot etc...) is only about 5 miles. The parks are good, the people are friendly. I highly recommend this area. Good Luck!

Hi N.,

I live in SA; the little i know is that the schools are good, the city has a couple of nice parks, it is a small SAFE city that is growing rapidly, there are a lot of military families in that area also since it is close to Randolph AFB. There are a couple of good churches there also, Resurrection Baptist Church is highly recommended.
I'm sorry i don't have any specifics at this moment, but i will check into it further for you. I just wanted to let you know it is a progressive city and it is considered to be an upper middle class area if that means anything to you.
