NorthEast ISD is the best school district in San Antonio. I've heard okay things about the area you are looking at, I've also heard good things about Comal ISD.
My husband is being transferred to San Antonio in early October. I am quite concerned about the school system there. We have 2 kids--ages 5 (starting Kindergarten) and a 10-year old (in 5th grade). Both kids are active and quick learners. My oldest daughter has been in the Gifted & Talented Program in her current school. We are planning to live in Northern San Antonio, around Shertz. What elementry and intermediate schools are recommended (or not recommended)? Does the location of your home determine where your child goes to school? (We currently live in Denver and my kids can attend any school in the Denver Public school sytem.) Any advice will be appreciated as my husband and I have never lived in Texas. Thanks.

Hi T.,
Yes, the location of your home determines your public school attendance zone. I have heard good things about Shertz -Cibolo schools. Your real estate agent should be able to give you more specific information related to the schools as you shop areas to live in. I live in New Braunfels, which is a community to the north of Shertz and Cibolo. We have two school districts in our community. My son is starting Kindergarten at Goodwin Frazier in two weeks. Let me know if I can help you in any other way.

Hi T. - I teach in New Braunfels. I have heard good things about Schertz/Cibolo/Universal City ISD (it's all one combined). Lot's of teachers want to work there. I know of one person who has had kids go there and loves it. Good luck with your move...please email if you have any other questions. We live across the highway near Garden Ridge in Comal ISD. My daughter will be starting kinder there.
We live in Schertz/Cibolo and we really like the schools here. My son went to private school for pre-k and kinder and then went to Greenvalley Elementary in the Schertz Cibolo Universal City ISD and was a little behind the other kids, he did catch up and we have not had any problems with any of the teachers they have all been wonderful, this year he will be going to the elementry school that was just built this summer, Sippel. We love it! I have also never heard anything bad about any of the other schools in this district. The locattion of your home does determine what school the child would go to. We live in a fairly new subdivision off of IH35 and FM1103 called Whisper Meadows. It's a nice quiet subdivision, kinda like living in the country and the houses are not right off the main road like most of the others, they don't have a park or pool in the neighbor hood (home owners association fees are $36.00/yr), but about 1/2-1mile up the road the city has a pool and park area that we use. I hope this was helpful.
Welcome to Texas! My sister lives in Loveland, CO.
I have 3 boys and my youngest will be starting kinder this year. We live in Schertz and our district is SCUCISD. WE have been a part of this district for 10 years now. My oldest attends Samuel Clemens HIgh School( I went there as well), My second son will be attendoing Corbett JR. HIgh and my youngest starts at Paschal Elementary. THere is a website you can check out. www.scuc.txed.net. It has all the schools in the district. We have been very happy with this district. I also have two sister-in-laws who work for the district at the jr. high level.
Yes the schools are determined by where you live. My boys are in the gifted and talented program as well. My oldest is one of the top 10 students in his grade level.
IF i can help in the future please look me up.
CHeck out the site above and it should be able to answer all your questions. Have a safe trip here.

Hi T.,
I agree with what the other mom(Jean) told you. Yes, it makes a difference where you live. Parents and some organizations in the city of San Antonio as well as Texas have been trying so hard to make it to where our children can attend whatever school they want because as parents, we know where our children belong. Unfortunately, legislation has not approve this in Texas. However, we do have what is called "school choice." This means you have a choice of some of the schools in your district and zip code range, but the deadline for this year ended in February (I think). I am not familiar with the Schertz districts. Hopefully, other moms have kids in this district and will be able to give you some feedback. Do you have to live in that area or do you have other choices? Not that the Schertz area is bad. I actually don't know a lot about this area, but have a lot of experience in school choice! Continue to research and if you decide on a school choice the following school year, be one step ahead and ask when registration starts and ends. I think you are going to like San Antonio and if you have any questions about the city, just ask us and we will give you good direction. Every thing will be okay. Just wait and see. Be Blessed!

Is your husband in the military? My dad was stationed in San Antonio and my parents chose to live in the Northest Independent School District of San Antonio (NEISD) instead of Shertz. I believe it's better than the district in Shertz but Shertz has gotten better.
We live in the NEISD and my daughter is starting kindergarten as well. My husband and I decided to keep her in the school she went to for kindergarten though I went through the process to get her into Northwood Elementary - not the elementary school she would go to by our house but our school of choice in NEISD. NEISD is a wonderful system. Good luck!
Welcome to San Antonio. I moved here two years and we really enjoy it. It would be perfect if it wasn't so hot in August. My son will be starting kinder as well. Good luck with everything. I don't live in Shertz but further north. Here is the website to the North East Independent School District. I don't no if you would be under this on or not but maybe there a main phone number that could direct you to right place.
The schools in San Antonio vary widely in quality based on where you live. San Antonio is a very large city. The schools in the Schertz area are quite good. The best schools are in the Stone Oak are (further west) and in Alamo Heights (more central). Mostly you would want to steer clear of the south side and the extreme east and down town areas. Schertz schools are not in the San Antonio school district, which is actually several districts (NorthEast, North, and San Antonio).
