Luca has been sleeping with us since he was 6 months old. He just turned two and I would like to start transitioning him back to his own room. I'm wondering what has worked for some of you.

Hi M.,

my daughter never slept in our bed but was in the same room in a crib until she was 2 1/2. I started transitioning her into her own room at nap time. I would put her to sleep in her own room for nap and read a book,or lay with her until she fell asleep. Then after about a week or 2 with naps going okay i started at night.. I would give her bath, read a book to her then lay with her until she fell asleep. Also i let her decorate her big girl room before we out her in her own room to get her excited about it. She is now 3 1/2 and loves her room and has been sleeping in her bed now.this worked for us and i hope it gives you a little idea. Also white noise worked as well

I have 2 girls 5 and 3 and just last monthgot them out of my bed. I told them we were going to have a pajama party and we did some playtime before bed then we went into the room and played on the bed and tea party, read a story and they fell asleep. I was very surprised because they lasted pretty much the whole night. The next day I put their favorite treat in their lunch box and made a big deal how they slept in their own beds. Then the next night they went straight to their beds and I did the same thing as the first time, big deal and favorite treat. Since then they have been sleeping in their beds. It took me 3 years but finally found a method that worked.

Good luck.

M.,

We got my son a big-boy bed when he was 18 months. He loved it so much he never looked back. Since he was used to company we got a trundle bed which is a twin bed with another twin bed that rolls out from underneath it. We can lie down with him comfortably and we don't worry about him falling out of the bed.

Good luck.

My daughter was sleeping in our bed and still is for a few hours a night. She is 15 months. I started putting her in her crib during her naps and when it is bed time, I would rock her and put her in it. During the night if she wakes up, I would rock her and put her back, unless she is not calming down, I would still put her into our bed.
I know that she prefers our bed but she does like her own as well, otherwise she would not stay in it at all.
I think you have to start slowly and consistently keep putting your son in his own bed and eventually he would want to stay in it.

My son Luca is almost three now. We got him a car bed which he loves, but does not want to sleep in. It has been a fight everynight for about 7 or 8 months now. I have no advice.

We just did this with our 2 year old. He is very into cars so we got a car shaped bed, twin sized, a very comfy mattress like what is on our bed, etc. We made a very big deal about setting it up and he was in it from the first night. :) The other night he wasn't feeling well and he scared us because he literally slept in his bed for 17 hours. We went in constantly checking on him but he was sound asleep.
