Movies/TV Shows on Computer/Netbook

Hi Moms,
We will be taking a VERY long plane ride next week and I was thinking about downloading some movies to my netbook. I cannot rip them from DVD - first of all my netbook doesn't have a dvd drive and second we don't have many kid's dvd's.
I was thinking about downloading some online, but I am not quite sure where to start... I would prefer a legal service and don't mind paying for the movies. Netflix is not an option, since won't be able to stream on the plane.

I saw that you can download (buy or rent) from i-tunes... have you ver done that? Does it work well and is the picture quality ok?
Any other services that you have used and like?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

be advised if you rent from iTunes, you have 24 hours from the first time you start it to finish it, then it disappears. It's great if you KNOW you'll finish it, but who knows with kids... kind of a bummer if they want the same movies on the way home.

I have downloaded TV shows from itunes without a problem. You may want to try doing a favorite TV show that is cheap. I think our show was $2, and see if you like the quality, then you can look into movies.

We used I-tunes to download to an IPod for a long plane ride. It worked great. The kids picked out cartoons and a lot of what we bought were $0.99 each!

i just use pbskids.org and they have little games and videos to watch. you tube also has episodes...you can look up a character specifically (my daughter loves caillou, unfortunately) and up will come lots of episodes.

i load my stuff onto SD cards and flash drives and run it on my netbook. I haven't done the Itunes since we have a network and I can access it ffrom anywhere as long as I have battery power.

you can download on blockbuster.com.

One note - if you really have a "netbook" (vs a reg size laptop), most come with pretty small hard drive capabilities and you may take up lots of space, thereby making your whole system crash. If you can get them onto a flashdrive that might be best.

Have a great trip!

The OTHER legal option, if your netbook has a usb port is to download movies onto memory sticks and play them from there. My neighbors do this when they fly to Israel every year with their son. They have a little key ring that has all the flashdrives on it, and stickers of what each show is on the stick.

I've bought from iTunes, and the quality has been as good as netflix, though not always up to DVD standards, usually right up there.
