There is a homeopathic remedy called "TEETHING TABLETS" They can be found at any pharmacy. I used them for all three of my girls (10, 7 and 17 mo) I never used the whole bottle. Works really well, and inexpensive also.
Good luck

My daughter is 15 mos and we are really struggling with teething at night. It is impacting our sleep which in turn affects our days!! I know that Motrin is supposed to be more effective than Tylenol, but my daughter has a very tender tummy. We tried Motrin when she was 7-8 mos and she acted very gassy and even vomited at one point, so of course, I quit giving it to her. Her ped suggested that I try again as she is older and her digestive system is a little more mature. Has anyone experienced this? She is already so uncomfortable, I would hate to add tummy issues on top of everything else. I'd like to know if anyone else had trouble with the Motrin at a younger age, and successfully used it later. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the help! We tried the Motrin again this morning and she was just fine! I don't like the idea of pumping meds in her, however. I have heard of the teething tablets but was hesitant to give them to her b/c of the belladonna. I took belladonna (in a much larger dose) years ago when I struggled with a stomach disorder. The effects of the pill where significant and I worried about putting a barbiturate based substance in my daughter. (I know it is a natural substance, but so are marijuana and arsenic, and I would never give those to my kids!) Anyway, so many of you swear by them that I called her ped who assured me that it wasn't the same as the pills I took and it was very safe. (She did, however, reiterate the importance of not exceeding the dosage recommended on the packaging.) So. . .long story short (too late) I bought the tablets and we tried them tonight. It did take a while for her to fall asleep, but I was expecting that as she is over-tired. I am hoping for a quiet, sleep-filled night! That poor little girl needs some sleep!! (So does her mommy!!!!) Thank you again!!--

I found, for some reason, that my kids didn't rest easy and sometimes became excited, after given motrin. So, I always avoid it at bedtime or middle of the night. You might want to try Motrin at a time when she isn't so uncomfortable to see if there is a reaction. It's quite possible it was totally unrelated. When my son has gotten upset and worked himself up over something, he's thrown up.
Hylands Teething Tablets. Homeopathic- super safe. They are available at most Rite Aids or Sav-on. Otherwise at Whole Foods. Proof: A 2 1/2 year old searching the diaper bag for them. Happy relief when she found them. Frozen veggies work great too.
Hi A.,
You really need to go homeopathic and natural here. The OTC products you are using and it's counterparts on the shelves at the store are damaging to the liver.
Go to a Henry's or some whole foods place in your area and find some natural products for teething that won't be harmful. Our herbalist has us crushing our Calcium pills and putting them in her water...or rubbing it on her gums if necessary for pain. She just had 7 teeth coming in at one time and we needed nothing for pain. But to give her body and new teeth 'support' we used the calcium tablets in her water anyway.
I know you'll have no problem in finding something better for your baby. Doctors aren't 'schooled' in the 'non' drug choices. So when asking your doctor about this stuff....will only have them suggesting their drug of choice. Side affects are a given but ignored in the big picture.
Good Luck!!
A., have you tried Boiron products or Hyland products? They are natural and worked very well for my son when he was teething. The Boiron had little plastic viles of teething meds and Hyland has disolving tiny pills. Also I found that frozen fruit in those little holders with netting so she doesn't get too big a piece are quite soothing. I was always a fan of Tylenol. Give her the grape as the cherry can cause an upset tummy. Just give to her before she gets bad and before bed to help her through the night. Chamomile tea helps calm them and their tummies. Well hope this helps. Good luck
My son was sensitive to ibuprofen until he was right about a year old. I would try it again if I were you. He also had lots of gas and upset tummy problems regularly like your daughter. I found that if I gave him a few drops of herbal tummy soothing tincture in warm water, it made all the difference, better than Mylicon drops. I found the soothing herbal tummy stuff at Wild Oats, I can't remember the exact name, but it comes in a brown glass bottle and it's in the vitamin section.
A., gave both our kids Motrin when they were teething; however, couple of recommendations. First have you tried the Hylands teething tablets or teething gel. Both of these work great for our son's when they were teething (try both at different times, because the gel worked great on our first one but the tablets didn't work. The second one we had great success with the tablets but not so much with the gel). Second, if the tablets and/or gel aren't working or the pain is just too much, try giving some milk or snack before giving the Motrin and it should help the tummy issues. If I had to give the Motrin at night I would give it with a few sips of milk. Try to stay away from orange juice (citric acid stuff) as this will just upset the tummy more. The other thing you can try is a few crackers/cookies. Just something in the tummy so it won't have an empty stomach to react to. The other thing my kids loved when they were teething was chewing on a small toothbrush, my husband actually took that one step further and bought the small kids electic toothbrush. Our boys would sit with the toothbrush in their mouth, turn it on and just drool. I guess the brush moving over the gums really helped them feel better. Course it could have been that it was a new toy so it took their mind off the pain. Who knows, but my theory is "whatever works!" Good luck and here's hoping you get a good night sleep soon!
Hi A.!
My daughter had bad teething pain. The only thing that I used was Hylands teething tablets. They are homeopathic so they won't hurt her tummy. You can buy them at walmart or target or even online at http://www.hylands.com/products/teething.php
The best thing is you can give her as much as she needs cause they won't hurt her!
I hope this helps! They really don't cost that much like $3 something and I think there is a coupon in the box for the next box.

Hi A. :)
If you haven't tried Hyland's Teething Tablets (homeopathic), they are FANTASTIC!! You can get them in Mother's Market. I've seen them in Ralph's, but they were twice the price. I would think any health food store would carry them. They are all natural- no medicines. I gave them to both of my children, now ages 2 and 5, who both started teething at 3 months. I am so very grateful to those little things. They help the babies calm and sleep. I told my friend about them recently for her 5 month old and she swears by them. Of course, I have heard about little ones they haven't worked for, but most of the children they do.
Just F.Y.I., when my daughter was about 1, I thought she had swallowed way too many of these tablets after she somehow got a hold of the bottle (???mystifying???- always watch those little guys!!) and they spilled all over the floor. I immediately called poison control and they told me not to worry at all. She could eat the entire bottle and only end up with a tummy ache. I was relieved in that.
Hopefully, this idea will work for you if you decide to try it :)
Blessings to you both,
Jennifer
A.,
Try it again but get the dye free version. And then make sure you give it to her right after she eats so she has a full tummy.

oh poor baby! i hated using meds on my baby i felt like i was drugging her (we drove cross country when she was cutting her first teeth and had to give tylenol for her fever and motrin for her pain every 4 hours) then i found a mirical!!! the gentle naturals teething drops!! i love them! i gave them to my daughter one night and 10min later she fell and busted her mouth open and didnt feel it! so the do work well. you also only have to give them every 2 hours. try that and see if it works! good luck!!!
i never noticed a problem with the motrin. i did always use the dye free variety though. as for the teething pain, like many other responces, we always used the hyland teething tablets. they seem to work great with all three of my kids and i felt safe giving them to them. you should be able to get them at any pharmacy. good luck and remember this too will pass.
There are some homeopathic tinctures you can get that can be put into a bottle or just dropped into the mouth that work quite well. I would seek those out at your local health food store. Good luck, I remember the doctor telling me that teething didn't hurt! Oh my goodness, you've got to be kidding!
Hi A.. I am Alicia, mother of six, youngest will be 2 in July. For us, we used Hyland's teething tablets and gel. They are herbal remedies and really helped with all my little ones. We also use organic frozen peas and corn when they are really hurting and even when they aren't. Even my oldest who is eight now still loves eating frozen corn and peas just for the taste. The kids think it's a treat. We've also eaten frozen green beans- fun to gnaw on and they numb the gums. Could be worth a try. :-)
I used teething tablets with all three of my babies. They are homeopathic so no harmful stuff and they work very well. You just ask for them at the pharmacy at Vons (that's where I got them). Hyland's makes them (not sure on the spelling).
I also recommend Hylands teething tabs.. they are AWESOME!!!
Good luck!
Aloha A.,
Teething tablets from the health food store worked great for all 3 of my kids.....and also for my husband! It's homeopathic little pellets and won't affect the stomach.

There is something called Hyland's teething tablets that works very well. Good luck to you .
One option is Highlands tablets - they're natural and dissolve under the child's tongue. i've found that their effect lasts for about an hour.
My 4 year old daughter is STILL teething with her last set of molars. I give her Highlands only when the pain seems moderate, and add Tylenol in addition if it seems warranted (Dr. Sear's baby book says that you can give kids 1 1/2 of their dosage of Tylenol with no additional side effects).
If the pain seems really bad I'll use Highlands and Motrin - fyi, her pediatrician recommends against using Motrin, I guess due to more severe side effects. So I really try to limit the Motrin.
Good luck!
I am a local homeopath in the la Costa Velley area. Try Chamomilla 30C 3 times daily and see how that helps. G. / Heling wtih Herbs
Try yeething tablets my 3 grandson.s used them and it helpes them all
Hi...I have a 15 mo old also and I give her both. I have never had a problem with either...have you tried teething tablets? or the nighttime orajel? I have also used the adult strength on her gums...she has two molars coming in right now, top and bottom...last time she had horrible diarreah that resulted in a bad diaper rash and the only thing to work for that was the baby gold bond powder. It cleared up overnight. I hope this helps!! if not try whiskey, it worked for us and we turned out ok!! Good luck!
Have you tried an amber necklace...they are believed to have calming properties related to teething pain. Our 8 mo. old son wears one and hasnt had any teething pain. Dont know if it is the necklace that has prevented teething pain or not...but might be worth a try. I got it from Nova naturals online.
Hi A.,
Glad to hear what you are doing is working now. Just wanted to add that the gassiness from when she was 7-8 months old may not have been due to the Motrin BUT could have been from the crying (when crying they can gasp for air and swollow it causing gas pain) she had been doing from the teething pain and then once given the Motrin she had the gas pain as well afterwards. Just a thought. Wishing you ALL sweet dreams!!!

My son who is now 4 had the same issues with Motrin. i only give to him when he has a high fever and he seems fine with it. I tried at like 7 mos and then again at 2. My my children had teething problems instead of give them Motrin I just rubbed it on their gums, Ice things (teething toys) & teething tablets. I usually did tylenol at naps and at bed. I don't like to give them too much meds. Good Luck...
Have you tried the topical teething remedies? There are little white "pills" that dissolve under the baby's tongue. Check w/ your pharmacy.
Try Hyland Teething Tablets instead of Motrin. I'm sure it would be better for her tummy and they work great!
I saw something on motrin & children a while back and how after a year or so of using it on and off, a child died from it. She was allergic to it and apparently it is a rather easy allergy to have. It takes a while for the child's body to react because they are building antibodies. My doc always pushed Tylenol anyway. Aside from the Tylenol, Hyland's teething tablets work. They dissolve VERY quickly and are safe to use on very small babies. My second started teething at 2 months and had his first years worth of teeth by 6mo. It was rough and the teething tablets worked along side the Tylenol. Good luck & God Bless You!
