Hi I am a 1st time mom and am trying to think of some great gifts for my mom and MIL they have been so amazing since my little guy has entered our lives. They both help out so much with him during the week so I am able to return to work and not leave him in daycare. I am giving them both pictures of him that we have has taken professionally that they have no idea about but I also want to give them something special preferably from my little guy to them-any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!
I gave my father a sweatshirt that says best Grandpa - Hands Down! and I had all the 4 kids put their handprints (with help) and then wrote all their names in glitter paint. He now wants a new one every year to see how they have grown. I also made a tote bag similar for my mom. She keeps her knitting in it.

We're doing the professional photo thing but will also make stepping stones with handprints for the Grandmas. Not too expensive and will look pretty in the garden. Better yet, do what we're doing and get together with the parents of any nieces or nephews so the Grandmas can have one for each child!
Happy First Mother's Day to you!

Hi D.,
I'm planning on ordering mine something from edible arrangements (they do have a website). They are flower arrangements made out of fruit...I think they are fun and a unique spin on the idea of sending flowers...hope this gives you an extra idea.

hand or foot prints...they actually sell kits for garden stones at Michaels(craft store)....or just put his prints in a frame or the same frame as the picture you had taken... or a picture of him with grandma...make it black and white...and you can frame it with a poem....there are tons of mom/grandma poems out there!

A piece of jewelery that proudly displays your son's name or birthstone and name is always a hit! The most popular gift nowadays is a bracelet with your sons name for each grandma.
Check out www.baileysbeadsandbeyond.com to get an idea of what I'm talking about. If not, you can get the little boy charms in gold at your local jewelery store with your sons
name engraved on the front and his birth date on the back. These come in the shape of a little boy or just a head in profile. You can also add to these as your family gets bigger. You can also give www.thingsremembered.com, they have
many lovely pieces of jewelery, including lockets that you can engrave with any personal note you wish. I assure you these 2 new grandma's will wear their gift with pride and show it off every chance they get.

How about earrings with his birthstone, or a charm bracelet and one charm 'from him''- and he can add to it every year on Mothers Day!

hi
i believe that the best gifts you can get for any mom are the ones that you make yourself. so i would suggest making a brag book for them... it's a mini scrapbook that they can "brag" to their friends with!! :)
take a look at the ones on my website. I would be more than happy to help you out.... and i can definately have it to you/anyone else in time for mother's day.
I read through some responses so will try not to repeat. I have two children and it does get harder each year in trying to do something original. This year I am trying two different things: The first is having my son, 4, take my mom out to lunch on Wednesday afternoon to a nice deli they like to typically go to together. On Thursday my 2 year old daughter will be taking her out - all dressed in her sunday best to Friendly's! My mom I know will lover her one on one time and the kids will love paying for it out of their pockets!
Second - I took them to the $1 store today and they each got $3. You should see the hyterical things they chose. I know it may not be practical - but they are so excited to wrap it and present it to her. I know my son is looking forward to her opening and displying the ceramic bell he chose!!?? And my daughter will enjoy seeing Grandma sport her new 'straw' purse!

A photo of the baby & or family in a nice frame. With a note telling them each how much you really appreciate what they have done for you.
If money is tight, Just enclose a special note in a card, that will more then likely make them both happier then anything you could buy for them. Words mean a lot for mothers to hear, don't you think?

Hi D., When my kids were little and I gave out pictures as gifts, I would buy a frame with a plain white matte to but the picture in. Then I would finger paint the matte with my little guys fingers. ( I'd only do one hand when they were very little to keep the mess to a minimum. when they got older I'd let them do their own thing... ) When they were old enough they even water colored some mattes that I framed pictures from the beach. It turned out great. We still have them hanging up. Good luck! ~ D.

At daycare, the teachers helped my kids make 'hand flowers'. They painted the kids hand and pressed it on paper several times to make a flower. the stem was painted in green with thumb print leaves. It was so cute! I have them sitting up on my shelf where I see it everyday!

hi D..
i was trying to think of what i would do in your situation. i, too, thought of pictures of the baby. i also thought maybe a letter "from" him. "he" can tell your mom and MIL how much "he" appreciates spending time with them and keeping him safe while mommy is at work. good luck!

I made my three plaster casting of my girlfriends daughters hand. One for her mom and MIL and one for my girlfriend for mothers day, the year she was born. She is now 6 and all three woman say it's the most precuos gift they have received. The kits are EASY!! I'm mean REALLY EASY!! fast too, not messy at all. They can be purschaed at craft stores or online. I think they cost between $6-$10. I have made many of my kids hands and feet throughouy the years. My son, now 12 year old, is HUGE with a size 12 mens shoe, so he thinks his little plaster foot is amazing. It seems like yesteray when I made it and he was itty bitty. Good luck!

I recommend going to one of the paint-your-own pottery places and making something with their hand and foot prints. I don't know where you live, but Claytime in Huntington is very good with babies. Another great gift is a locket with a picture inside.

Danelle,
Why not give each of them a framed hand print of your little boy. You could even get one of those double frames and put the picture in one and the hand print in the other. Make a card that says hands down I'm the luckiest kid in the world to have a grandma like you! I'm a Grandma and I would treasure that forever!

This requires a little time but not much money and my mother and MIL loved it!!! I bought a simple 8x10 frame and put a wallet size photo of my daughter in the middle mounted on pretty paper. The frame laying on it's side. Then on either side of the photo I places foot prints. You can get washable paint that is safe for baby but when used on paper it looks great. The foot prints I put on white paper so they showed up really well, cut then out and then using scrapbook quality double sided tape put them on the pretty paper too. In the frame it is all safe and looks great. Below the picture I put my daughters name and age when the picture was taken. It was more appreciated than the gift I bought. In fact I don't even remember what I bought but that frame still hangs in my moms diningroom!!! Good Luck! A.
PS You may have to get your husband to help do the foot prints, one holds the baby and the other paints, prints and washes one little foot at a time!!!

Hi D.,
What about a spa /detox gift basket? It would give them a chance to relax, unwind and pamper themselves after all the work and effort they have put in helping you out. Arbonne has just launched a whole new line of products called the Seasource detox spa (www.arbonne.com). I would be more than happy to make you up a basket and ship it out for you. Let me know if you have any questions? Happy (almost) Mother's Day!!

On the first Mother's day that I had my daughter, I gave my mom and MILs baby shoe charms. They have beautiful ones from Ross-Simon, as well as Fortunoff's. The ladies loved them! Also, Lladro makes a couple of gorgeous figurines depicting newborns (one is a bassinet, and there is another that I can't recall, but I remember that it was nice. They are absolutely precious!

Hi. You mentioned you had professional pics taken. I bought mugs with my sons pics on them for the 'Grandmas'. They have them in all different sizes at CVS and even a travel mug. It is something they can use often- as opposed to a knick-knack that sits on a shelf. Also- another cool idea is starting a charm bracelete. My husband bought one for me a few years ago and now when a holiday, birthday, etc. arises, I sometimes pick out a new charm - or get surprised with one. You could do that for each Grandma and then add a charm to each each Mother's Day or Birthday, etc..
Good Luck.

Hi D., Happy first Mother's Day to you! I think the picture of your son in a nice frame is a great gift unless you know of something else they would want or need. As a 3X grandmother myself I'm sure they would agree that the baby is the greatest gift you could give them. Best wishes, Mary

I got both my mother and my MIL magazine subscriptions. One to BHG (better homes & gardens) and one sewing mag. What are their hobbies or interests? You can also put together homemade gift baskets for less than 1/2 the price of an ordered one! (That was my latest gift to FIL on his bday) Google gift baskets for ideas.
You're very lucky to have them both there for you. Don't worry about spending a little extra for the large amount of money you're saving by not paying for a daycare!
Good luck :)

I would suggest a special lunch. You can take them each out separately unless they know and like each other. Then it might be nice for the 3 of you to go together. Make it just a girls day, and leave your son at home with your husband. Also, make sure you give the photos in a nice frame.
