Find a park! You'll need to get a permit to host a large gathering (call the park's dept or look on the parks dept website), but it should be relatively cheap ($15-25). Make sure there's a restroom nearby, though.
Hello Moms!
Planning this first birthday party is driving me crazy!! My biggest concern right now is trying to find a venue in Brooklyn, NY in which to hold the party. I haven't been able to find anyone with a backyard that's willing to let me us their space, same for Staten Island (which is the other place I would hold the party if nothing came through in Brooklyn). My apartment's not big enough, and I don't know of any restaurants that have a party area for me to use. HELP!! Once I know where the party will be, I'll be able to plan everything else with ease.
Thanks so much for all of your great responses! I've decided to go with Kids Fun House. They'll set up everything for me: party room, cake, goodie bags, etc. The place has slides, games and rides for the kids, and it's indoors so I don't have to worry about the weather. I realized it might be better to save my big, fancy ideas for a time when she can appreciate it. I think that at this stage in her life, she's more concerned with being around the people she loves and enjoying their company, no matter where she is =)

Could also try the Moxie Spot (restaurant/play area especially made for kids - Atlantic and Hicks) I also heard that you can host a party at "Power Play Kids" on 3rd Ave (btwn 7 and 8th streets).
Haven't personally used either, but have heard good things.
Good luck and have fun!!
How many people are you inviting? There's Bubbles Playhouse, the Brooklyn Children's Museum, Chez Lola (not sure how fancy this one is).
There is a place called The Carriage House in Staten Ilsand (right over the bridge in Fort Wadsworth). They rent out the room and also have an outdoor area I believe. They did the hot buffet and an open bar(beer/wine/soda) for a party I went to there afew years back. The guys played pool and and sat at the bar while ladies mingles and danced as did the kiddies when elmo and friends came! There are also a lot of K of C's here and a few "inexpensive" restaurants like Gennaro's, La Strada, Bistro, and Nino's. Well there be a large number of kids? Some restaurants here are really not that "kid friendly". Keep that in mind.
where in Brooklyn are you? I've attended many birthday parties @ the park. Albeit it's not private-bit only requires a $25 permit fee.
Good luck!
