Monogramming - Chelsea,MI

My sister does the Monogramming for us and she would never put it on anything that visible like a backpack or a coat she has told me. She has put it on a blanket, a robe, a pencil case things that don't get seen in public. I might do it on the outside of the lunchbox if it always is in the backback going to school. My kids do like seeing their names so having alternative places to put their names makes me feel like they are having the fun of seeing their names. I guess I am paranoid too. Why chance it?

B.; yes, i would put my childs name on the back pack but only on the inside, this way the child knew where to look and this also keep predators from knowing his name, i understand your fear, keep a good healthy fear of it, its ok to put name in the back pack, and show the kid hey if you and another kid have the same back pack your name is right here, it works well, have a wonderful day , D. s

Don't do it! I am terrified to monogram my kids names. How easy would it be for a stranger to call out their name and pretend to know them? However, I call my kids names out SO much when I am with them that anyone within ear shot would know what they were! I just do initials because it's cute and it helps them find their bags!

I completely agree with Lynn L. I would monogram my child's name on his backpack. Everyone is so afraid of everything nowadays. We truly need to remember that the odds of your child being abducted by a STRANGER (not a friend or relative who would already know the kid's name) are 1/1,000,000!! Is your child going to be wandering around alone in public with his or her backpack? I know mine doesn't. He goes to school, stays all day, then goes home. A child old enough to walk to or from school alone is old enough not to fall for a stranger's lies. These are just my thoughts on the topic. Whatever you decide to do is just fine!! Please everyone don't jump all over me for this!

I would not. A long time ago, I read that you should never put your child's name on things...like the back of their shirt, backpack, etc. Any stranger could call your child's name, and your child may get confused and think that the stranger knows them. We all educate our children about stranger danger, but you don't want to give the stranger the edge.
Just put the name on the inside of the backpack.

If you are paranoid then I am right there with you! Simply put, I do not want strangers knowing my child's name. I put their name somewhere not so visible to the world with a permanment marker in case it gets lost. I have however, monogrammed things like fabric toys, blankets, stuff that stays in the house.

I am paranoid too! I had just his initials monogrammed!

Personally, I think that you are paranoid. BUT you are not alone. Many parents think like you do. You must do what feels best for you and your family. Importantly, teach your child about stranger danger. If it is a person you do not know then he/she may not talk to that person unless you are with him/her.

its been recommended for years not to put kids names on the outside of anything so no stranger can just walk up and call them by name.....i have always put their names on the inside of the backpack since it needs to have the name anyway ...this way no one that doesnt know them wont see it...you are not paranoid these days there are too many nut cases out there just put it on the inside

When my husband and I ordered our son's backpack from L.L. Bean we had his first initial and last name monogrammed on the pack. The pack is green and beige in a camouflage pattern and the thread they chose makes the monogram very hard to see. Only very observant people and his family know where to find the stitching.

I would not put my son's first name on anything he would wear in public, but I don't think initials or his first initial and last name are dangerous.

Unfortunately in todays world it's better to be safe than sorry. I personally would not have my child's name on their backpack. I would probably do initials if I thought it would be easier for my child to locate his or her backpack.

I think it's a GREAT idea. - I just read some of the others and think initals is the BEST idea!!

We never had any problems with back packs, although my daughter is just going into first grade..so no problems with 2 years of preschool and kindergarten...

In the younger grades they ask you to write the kids name on the back pack, so monograming sounds like a great idea!

I do not think you are being paranoid. I would not do it, we just put our daughters name on the inside of her new lunch box and she really wanted on the outside. I explained, that the reason we put it on the inside is so that stranges would not be able to call her by name and make it seem like they knew her. She is only 5, but told me that made sense because bad strangers will try a lot of tricks to get a kid to go with them.
