NO! My son didnt utter a word until he was 22 months. THen at 24 months he was speaking in sentences! I also know many 2 yr olds that only say some words, not sentences.
My 19 month old baby is not fully talking yet....she says some words and repeats most things her siblings day to her. But a full sentence or really trying to talk not yet! She understands everything that we say to her....I am concerned...but everyone else keeps telling me not to be...she will come into her own at her own pace....Should I be concerned? Thanks
Thanks everyone for all of your advices...We are in speach therapy now...and She starting talking alot more right before we started! LOL ...Thanks!

Hi J., Don't worry your daughter is & will be just fine. My son didn't talk when he was a baby & i thought something was wrong with him too.He walked at 9 months but wouldn't talk until he was about 13 months. He did say words & understood eberything we said but, he just didn't talk. He is still very quiet & he is a grown man now. My daughter was born talking!! but, didn't walk until she was 13 months old. It just varies.Don't worry yourself. She will talk soon enough. When she does look out. Welcome to Fort Worth.K.
All I can say is... BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!
My (now 28 month old) didn't talk until he was 24 months. My first son spoke articulately at 18 months so we were concerned like you. He would just take us by the finger and lead us to what he wanted and like your little one, understood everything that we said....
Now that Carter has started talking... there is no end to his extremely loud gabbing!
I am sure that you little one will pick up in her own time. Then you will have an obnoxious dinnertime like us ;-)
Good Luck!
E.
I have read that Albert Einstein didn't talk until age 2 or 3. Don't worry!
Don't worry. My 2nd oldest and my youngest were the same way. I could tell them what to do and they would do it with no hesitation. They understood perfectly what I was saying to them. Though they didn't talk much at all. Trust me, she will talk when she's ready and when she does you won't believe there was ever a time that se wasn't.
at 19 months i dont think you should expect more than one or two words put together, i think when my daughter was about 2-2.5 she started 3-4 word sentences. so i think yours is prolly right on track. if you are really concerned you could talk to your dr or eci but i dont think you should be.
my daughter really started talking in full sentences by about 3yrs.
I agree with everyone else's posts. My son is 2 and does not talk in complete sentences. ECI evaluated him (at our request) a few months ago and said he is fine, he's just a "laid back" kid. Be patient- it will happen soon enough!
The important part of what you said is that she understands. My last two actually seemed to think it was funny that we wanted them to talk. They were experiencing language acquisition because you could tell them to do things, not just simple directions, and they did them so they obviously understood, they just didn't want to talk.
As long as the doctor seems fine with what the child is saying, I would not worry about anything. Yours will talk when the mood strikes and then never be quiet again.
