Hi - I'm new to this site, but I thought maybe someone out there would have some suggestions. I'm looking for mommy and me groups for my son and I. He's only a few weeks old, but I'd like to find something (music classes, swimming lessons, general play/sing along group) to join in the next 4-6 months. I'm looking for activities that will stimulate him and will allow me to meet other new moms in the metro-west area where I recently moved. If you have any recommendations I would greatly appreciate hearing about them. (I'd prefer if there were groups in Lincoln, Wayland, Weston, Wellesley, Sudbury area)

What can I do next?

I'll be honest with you, I did tons of mommy and me classes and I never really met a friend. I found a lot of moms that already had playgroups. So I joined a playgroup at meet-up.com.

Check out the Mothers and More website or MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) to find some groups in your area...great way to meet other mommies with kids in a similar age range. I'm a HUGE fan of gymboree, but it can be a little pricey. I did that with my dd for about a year and it was a lot of fun for both of us. Congrats and good luck!

Consider Meetup.com - that's how I found our playgroup and learned a lot about local kid events.

check meetup.com for moms groups. Really, your kids so little, not much stimulation is necessary. Why pay for the classes.

kindermusik starts at birth.. check the kindermusik.com website to find a location nearby. some kindermusik is expensive others are more reasonable.

gymboree is good but very expensive...($16 per week for 1 class)

library story times.. freee.. they have story times for babies.. great place to meet other moms.

swim classes are good but you are not likely to meet moms to hang out with as everyone is so busy with their own baby.. we started mom and tot swim at 12 months..(they do not learn anything in these classes but it is good for them)

check you local school district.. a couple of years ago.. when school districts had $$ they ran playgroups.. for little ones.. I went to one for $5 a week.. 1 hour of free play story song snack and a craft.. all in a school setting so we even got to use the school gym.

look for a moms club in your area.. there is a website moms club international???? look for a meetup for moms of young ones/

Hi E.!
I hope this finds you well.
Isis is a great resource. They have drop-in groups, I believe and tons of classes. The closest one to you would be in Needham, which is the one I usually go to. Here is their website: http://www.isisparenting.com/

We did yoga and gymnastics (and still do) with our daughter, but the classes we take are further out (in Marlborough and Hopkinton) and better for when he is older. If you're interested let me know and I'd be happy to send along that information, too.

I think someone else already suggested this, but libraries tend to have activities as well. I know both libraries in Wellesley have something at least daily and Weston once a week. I'm sure the Wayland library does too.

Take care and good luck with your little one!

Our hospital had a group for birth to 1 year. It's where I met two other moms I'm still friends with 5 years later (our kids started kindergarten this year). You could call maternity at local hospitals and check with them. I would also check your local park district.

Honestly, I didn't find too many options before 18 months. That's when I really started to meet other moms.

Good luck!
