Check on Craigslist. I found a guy that way. I dropped it off at his house, which was in a nice area, and picked it up an hour later all fixed
If you live in Orange County, CA there is a place called "Tech Room" that recovered all the data lost on my HD when my computer crashed, installed new software and configured my external drives to automatically update for under $500. My husband also just had his computer fixed and commented on their reasonable prices, their knowledge in troubleshooting, and how quickly they work.
Try rebooting first. Make sure all your wires and cables are plugged in all the way in and contacts are clean.
Are you in Orange County?
My husband is a computer tech for the school district. He does this as side work and word of mouth. He charges $70 an hour and won't expect you to pay him unless he actually fixes your computer. He knows how to work on everything (Macs, PCs, laptops). Hardware and software, he has and can do it all. Let me know if you are in the OC area since he does house calls and will diagnose for free. Then it's up to you to decide...
I took my laptop to Best Buy for the Geek Squad once...very good prices and they totally fixed it.
