My 4-1/2 month old son seems to be teething. He used to take naps in the day and sleep through the night but now he sometimes wakes up twice at night and he doesn't nap at all during the day. He is also constantly chewing on his fingers or toys. He has not had a fever but he is normally constipated and lately his bowel movements have been softer. When I went for his 4 month check up the doctor said it was most likely do to teething. My son has been spitting up a lot more the past week, is that normal with teething? Have any of you experienced that with your child? He seems content with a cold teething ring or a frozen nuk.

What can I do next?

Hyland's teething tablets are the best. They are in the baby aisle at HEB, usually up high on the shelves. (ask the pharmacist if you can't find them) I've also found them at Walgreen's. They are homeopathic and dissolve instantly. I give my daughter (6 months old) 2 after each feeding during the day. They have helped her so much. The tablets aren't medicine so it's safer than oragel or tylenol, they help her body help itself. My daughter still drools and chews on everything, but she's no longer fussy and she rests very well. :) I hope this helps. It takes about a day to work. They need to get in the system and start working so give them a few days to do their job. V.

Yeah, the spitting up is normal. Especially if he always has his fingers or something in his mouth. Its so relaxing to him to chew on things that he'll try with all his might not to let it out of his mouth and he probably ends up shoving his little fingers, etc. too far back and it gags him. Now about the poop...i have lost all knowledge of what normal poop is. my 2 year old poops like a rabbit(little balls) since she was a baby and when she doesn't go that way i think twice about it. but she goes the average 2-3 X a day. Just keep him hydrated and make sure somethins commin out of back there!! he'll be fine.

Hi J.,

My son starting teething at three months and had teeth at four months. The teething toys placed in the refrigetator will help. My son's favorite is: Wet the baby washclothes and cool them in the refrigerator. They are easy to hold on to and it gave my son relief. After all measures were taken, my peditrician approved a very small amount of baby tylenol. But, check with your peditrician and the amount that should be given.

Hope this helps.

My son did those same things except the spitting up. It's good he will use a cold teething ring, some kids won't. You may want to give him some infants Motrin or Tylenol to help him sleep. There is also an item called "Teething Tablets" that come in a pink box and are found in the pharmacy section (with the infant tylenol, etc.) that help kids relax and sleep better. They just disolve in the mouth. I've heard a lot of people say these have worked when nothing else has.
