I wanted to see if any other moms have come across this... there were like green spots in the hot dogs. They were the last 2 but none of the other ones had them... I threw them out cuz I was scared it was mold or some weird bacteria. Is that wierd? I've never seen that before. Is it mold or just something else? I tried to google it but nothing came up. I wanted to see if this has ever happened to anyone else. They weren't supposed to expire for two weeks. Weird.

What can I do next?

Most likely mold. If the package had been opened, then that nulls and voids the expiration date because you're exposing the food to air and temperature change. You can only go by the expiration date if the package has been unopened and undamaged.

If the green spot is fuzzy then it is mold....if it appears smooth then it may be discoloration in the meat which can mean one of two things...it is either harmless or the meat is spoiled. I probably wouldn't leave it up to chance on hot dogs unless the were expensive like a polish or brat; then I might do a smell check and taste a little if it didn't smell bad. I remember eating green hot dogs in elementary school growing up; then it was just a discoloration in the meat and was harmless (though gross looking).

sounds like mold. My grandfather had a mantra he passed on to us.....

When in doubt, throw it out!

dittto with Patty W. -- when in doubt, throw it out. Meat can be spoiled and still not smell bad. Erica is also correct -- the date is a sell-by date for an unopened package; once opened meat should be cooked or frozen within 3 to 5 days.
