I went yesterday for a checkup with my regular doctor. She wasn't able to see or feel the strings to my IUD. She is sending me for an ultrasound. Has anyone experiences this and what were your results?

Hi Emily,

I know I am late responding (I was out of town) but since you only got 4 replies and a couple were less than soothing I thought I would tell you that I have had an IUD for 30 years. My sting was missing for probably the last 15 and I would get annual Ultra Sounds. It was always confirmed all was well and in place. Just this past March my new doctor said he felt the string. I said "your kidding me?"
So he dicided to check again to prove it, and not to be to graffic he really had to push up there to feel it, but said he did. So more than liely it has just worked it way up a little further into you and all will be well. Definately get the ultra sound though. My first Ultra Sound they discoverd that I had gall stones and although they have never been a problem I think it's good to know incase I get some wierd symptons one of these days. Good luck to you

Yes I did. To find out my body pushed it out while I was sleeping. Foreign matter in ones system, sometimes the body will reject it and just push it out itself.

OMG yes. That DID happen to me and I hope this doesnt scare you, but get to the Dr NOW, TODAY.
My string was missing(this was years ago)and I was a ski instructor in Tahoe at the time. I carried on(I was quite young)and one day I collapsed on the mountain.
I was rushed to the hospital and I had an infection, an ectopic pregnacy, and a cyst the size of a grapefruit on my left ovary, AND the IUD had slipped through my uterus muscle wall. It had to be surgically removed in emergency surgery, along with the pregnancy, along with the cyst.

I had severe warning signs but was young and in complete denial from fear of what COULD be wrong.
I had had such extreme episodes of excrutiating pain that it literally could drop me to my knees. This was the IUD going through the muscle Im sure.
I had dark blackish/blueish circles under my eyes. I had a long lasting low-grade fever. This is a very dangerous sign of something vital usually.

I lived. Just go to the hospital for X-rays NOW, and whatever they have to do. Be suspicious of ectopic pregnacy, that's common in the circumstance.

My incident involved not finding the string - sending me for an US and then getting the news that yes, the IUD was still there along with twin A and twin B...the IUD string was missing b/c the embryos implanted and carried the IUD at the top of my uterus. I would ask the US tech if you could talk to the radiologist after the test to find out what they have found. I had to wait over a long weekend for the doctor to tell me.
I now have beautiful 10 month old babies...(=
I am sure you'll hear quite a few stories regarding IUDs...I've heard my fair share!
Take care,
A.
