"Miscarriage" with Mirena IUD? Would Pregnancy Test Come up Positive? *Graphic*

Hi there, i have a mirena IUD- i understand how they work and thought I was totally ok with it. This is actually the 2nd one I have had after my youngest child was born. So I have had one in for about 5 years and close to a year for this one. This past week I have noticed things "off" like my sense of smell was crazy heightened- things I experience while pregnant. I didn't put much thought into it until I went to the bathroom and noticed a bloody mucas ball like. Sorry kind of gross but that is what it was. I then within a day or so started to spot slightly like i do at the start of a period and now I have a normal IUD flow.
Is it possible that I was pregnant and the IUD worked as it should so that I would not sustain the pregnancy? I am not sure how I feel about this but hate not knowing. Is it possible to take a pregnance test and knowing that I would have already lost the possible fetus- would it come up positive so that I would know for sure?
The questions and doubt and wondering about this is driving me crazy. I just want to know if that is what happened or not?
Please dont be mean- judge- criticize or even answer if you don't know.
Thanks for your helps moms

Sounds like it's just the Mirena. I had all kinds of bizarre things come out after having one put in. It also made me think I was pregnant all the time because of the pregnancy-like symptoms I had with it (and never was). Hope this puts your mind at ease.

I've had a Mirena for 2 years. My understanding is that although it is technically possible, it's extremely unlikely to have a uterine pregnancy with the IUD in because it thins the uterine lining to such a point that implantation can't take place. The large, bloody mucous blob you described was probably just regular menstrual material but if it's really bothering you, make an appt with your OB/GYN and have some bloodwork done. If you did have a pregnancy (even if it was miscarried) your labwork will show elevated hCG levels. I hope this helps~

if you have any pregnancy hormones, you'd want to take the test as soon as possible, but I would think only a doctor would be able to tell you for sure.

I currently have a Mirena--my first since my second son was born back in September, but my second overall (I had one for a few years between the births of my two sons). I've never had something occur as you have described, but I know I had quite a bit of bleeding when my latest Mirena was inserted because I had it not long after my son was born. For some reason, the lining of the uterus becomes even more irritated from the equipment used to help insert the Mirena so soon postpartum. Maybe you had a clot that finally worked itself loose? As the others said, if it had been a pregnancy, your HCG levels (the pregnancy hormones) would already be dropping quickly. I think the best way to know for sure is to get a blood test from your doctor. I'm not sure if a home pregnancy test would work--I don't know if they're that sensitive. Good luck, and I hope you find the answers you need.

Check with the gyno. The same thing happened to me altho I had bad pains when my period came around. I asked my doc he didnt answer me (idiot) but I never took a preggo test. I felt as if I did lose a pregnancy but hey not like I could have stopped it so I went on without any other issues.
However I have heard about women getting tubes tied and same thing happens but not pregnancy just bodily change. Time to call the doc!

If you were pregnant, your hormone levels would be rapidly dropping if you passed the fetus. Take a pregnancy test or ask your dr to do a blood pregnancy test. ASAP. I am so sorry you are going through this. From your description, it sounds likely that this occured. My prayers are with you.
