I've had Mirena for about a year and have not had any problems with it. I enjoy the fact that I don't have hormonal shifts from synthetic hormones (as I did with pills) and I love that fact that I have still not had a period! (I breastfed twins for a year, so that may be part of it, although Mirena is supposed to either lighten or eliminate periods as well.)

I have had this for about 1.5 years and love it so much. I have no periods at all, and no cost to pay every month on birth control. It is the best thing ever. You can not even tell you have it in.

I've had Mirena for almost 3 years now and I love it. My periods are very light, when they used to be horrible & painful! (Not sure if that is 100% Mirena's doing or if it's partially just my body changing after having my daughter).

You can't tell it's there and you dont have to worry about it. No remembering to take a pill or anything every day (I wouldn't make it on the pill! ha!)

I used a different IUD - the "copper T" - about three months after my son was born, and sometime after it was inserted, I started bleeding. I figured it was likely my first period, so I wasn't concerned, but the bleeding didn't stop and became heavier over time, so by the end of the month I was really worried I was hemorrhaging and that I would eventually faint from loss of blood or the like. Also after almost a month of use I got a terrible week-long migraine and we tried four different medicines before we found one that helped me function so I could care for my infant. My OB (an excellent man) didn't think it was related to the IUD and that it was just my first post-baby period, but I felt it was the IUD and insisted it be taken out. Within a day or two the bleeding stopped, and so did the migraines. Apparently these are not common side effects, but it does limit my birth control options (since I'm also really bad about taking pills consistently). So, while I hear good things about IUDs (both Mirena and the copper T), be aware that there are some complications to look out for. A month of bleeding is a bad thing.... :)

I LOVE IT!!!! I had my son in March, and got the Mirena put in a few weeks later. I've had one period that lasted for about 4 days, and it was VERY light!! Now, I do cramp a little sometimes, but that is just your uterus cramping like always "That Time Of Month" and it is cramping around the Mirena, which is a foreign object, so it can get pretty uncomfortable----small price to pay for this amazing invention!! It is awesome!! =)

one year after i had my baby girl i found a lump im my breast.I went to the doc and it come out not cancer(thank god) then in the blood work they found my platletts were high so here we go again i had to see a cancer doc. they took me off the patch and said i had to do something else mirean, depo shot,or the ring. i didnt do the pill because i wouldnt remember to take it. so i went with the mirena i really wasnt sure about it but had it put in last may. june had some bad cramping no period, july some slight cramping, aug no cramping and no period. i cant find the strings my uterus is pointed towards my back bone so they told me not to worry about them. so i like it, not everyone well but most of the ladies do. just tell them to not cut the strings too short you can always go back and get them cut shorter after they curl up if they bother you..

Hi C.,

I've had my Mirena for 2 years and I have loved it loved it loved it. I haven't had a period, I spot sometimes, but nothing that warrants more than a thin liner. The only "bad" thing that I have noticed is the cramping, it didn't bother me at first, but it seems the cramps become a little more intense each month (not sure if this is normal). But overall, I love it.

Hi C.,
I am 37 yr old SHM of 3 boys. I have had a Mirena for almost 2 years and LOVE it! I have had no problems at all. I don't have a regular period anymore. I just get a bit of spotting about once a month. It has been the perfect choice for my husband and myself. Good luck!

I've had the Mirena IUD for 2 years now, and I love it! I no longer have periods (sometimes I have a little spotting for a few days). No more remembering to take a pill, no more bleeding & painful period cramps. No more having to get birth control prescritions filled. And my doctor told me that when I'm ready to have it removed, it's almost as simple as pulling out a tampon, and you can get pregnant in the month following removal.

hormone-based birth control of any kind reverses mate choice from what it is naturally supposed to be. this can cause relationship problems.

Get it. It's worth it. I love it. I know at least 3 other people who have gotten it, and they all love it too. None of them has had a problem with it. You should ask your doctor about it. It's great.

Hi there! I have had Mirena for like 5 years now and I love it. I still have periods but they are very light normally only requiring a liner. I had a blood clot while I was pregnant with my son so I couldn't use anything other than the IUD - but it has been wonderful for me.

I got one last May. I have not had all of the great benefits from it like they show on TV. I had a period that lasted the first 3 months...everyday. And now I have them for 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off. The benefit of not having to remember to take anything is great though. ALSO--my dermotologist seems to think that it is causing me acne at 27 too! You just need to weigh the pros and cons for yourself. Everyone else I have talked to really likes it!

I had a horrible experience with Mirena. The doctor that put it in cut the strings too short. I didn't realize it at first, but when I started seeing a new doctor she said that she couldn't find the strings, etc.... they quoted me a price of almost 20,000 dollars to have it removed. My insurance didn't cover birth control so this would have been out of pocket. Basicly, they were going to do surgery in order to get it out. All because the strings were too short. I went back to the doctor that had put it in and demanded they remove it without surgery - which may not have been smart and I still don't know if there is any residual damage from having them remove it. But, it was very painful!!! They had to first, locate the strings and then try to grab them and pull it out - it took a while, and they had to use something to hook it, which hurt because they couldn't grab the strings and kept hitting me with it! I had horrible cramps for days afterwards. I don't know how common this would be, but I would never recommend getting one. I'm sure you will also get plenty of comments about heavy acne, weight gain, and I had stomach pains with it. I feel more like myself, I have more energy and don't have pains since I had it removed.

I hope this helps you make an educated decision. When I was having it put in, the doctor assured me that it was easy to remove. Good Luck !

I got my Mirena put in last May shortly after my daughter was born and it was painless. They did tell my that my periods would probably stop after around 6 mos and they have not yet but they now usually only last maybe 2-3 and are very light.
So I am hoping they stop soon. I just like it that I don't have to remember to take a pill every day. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hi, my name is R. and I have had the Mirena for over a year now. I have really liked it. I either have very light to no periods. It has not caused me any problems. I really have liked having it since there is no having to remember to take a pill everyday. I am really glad I got it since we are waiting till my daughter is three to start trying again. Much less to worry about. But it is all about personal choice, so you have to be comfortable with what you choose. Hope this helps.

Haha... ANYWAY...

I have had the Mirena for 2 years and besides having occasional intense cramp pains (I guess everyone is different?) that last just a few seconds, I think its the best thing ever! I feel so sorry for all my pre-baby pals trying everything else.

I do spot sometimes and out of the blue will have that obvious ping of pain from the site of where the Mirena is at, but compared to previous period cramping its no big deal. I only mention it because I might be in the minority who can sometimes tell its there and feel it, so you might too.

Also I was very hormone sensitive, couldn't be on the pill or anything without being sick, and I can tell no difference at all between pre and post Mirena. Its been great.

Hi, I've been using Mirena for over a year now and must say I love it: I have 2 kids, 4.5 and almost 2 and used to have very heavy periods with lots of cramping. Mirena has reduced that a whole lot, I now no longer dread that time of the month.

I have the Mirena and love it! I have had it about 20 months, right after my second child was born. I got pregnant three times (one miscarriage) while on other forms of birth control and I am horrible at remembering to take a pill. The Mirena was logical choice since we didnt want to have any more children for a while.
I am one of the lucky ones that don't have periods and that alone has saved us so much money from not having to buy pain killers, liner, tampons, etc. Plus if you factor how much the Mirena cost compared to pills or the patch for five years you are saving a lot there, too.
The only problem I had was for the first month I was kind of queasy, but after that I have had no other symptoms. I know some people have had problems with the strings, but I have not, nor have I had any discharge.
Good luck on your choice.
