Minnesota Savings 529 Plan for Your Child?

My daughter is only two, but I figured it will be a good idea to put some money away for her education. I have been researching online and talking to other moms at work and is wondering what other moms in here have done about saving/investing for their child's education. Is anyone currently under the MN Savings 529 Plan? Do you like it? Reviews or thoughts?

We started the 529 plan as soon as our son was born, and we've been happy w/ it--he's 17 months old now. We also do the direct deposit so we never forget to contribute, and we don't miss the money. I've heard of a few other plans as well, but I can't offer advice b/c I don't know about them. The 529 plan can be used for any type of education: college, tech school, cooking school, etc. etc. But, it has to be used for only educational purposes. Take care.

Great idea - We go directly to the plan - did it all on line as I recall. They have easy ways to set up automatic deposits so you don't have to remember to make deposits. Also they provide one time deposit vouchers so we have used those when the grandparents wanted to give a few educational dollars. We selected the investment option based on age and have been happy - even in today's market!

Start now - they grow up fast!

Our 2 older boys each have a 529. Our youngest was just born on Tuesday and he'll be getting one when we get his social security card. We have them through Wells Fargo and we are required to deposit $25 per month minimum into each account (direct deposited from our checking). I think they are great. Much better than a traditional savings account because the money can only be used for education.

Hi Linda-
We use that Mn 529 plan- have since my 7 yo twins were born.
We selected a mutual fund under that plan to put our funds in within T. Rowe Price.
I haven't looked at it since the market tanked but otherwise we've liked the program.
About me: 48 yo med prof, wellness coach with home bus. and mom to 7 yo frat. twin girls

You are not limited to just a MN 529. You can research different state's plans and pick the one that has the best returns. We have one for our son and his grandparents started one for each grandchild.
