Help!! I accidently left my 5 months wet clothes in a plastic bag. The mildew left black dots on the clothes after they were washed. How can I get the black dots left on the clothes out? Any suggestions will be very helpful.

What can I do next?

I had this happen to some of my clothing one time. I just tried re-washing them BEFORE drying (once you dry, the heat will set it in) and in my washer, I added about a 1/2 cup of clorox bleach to the water, let the cycle mix up a little bit BEFORE I added my clothes so it wouldn't get bleach stains, and when I got them out of the washer after the cycle, it had come out. However, I did NOT dry them before re-washing them. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Put hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle and saturate the stains with it before washing them.
You can also add a cup of white vinegar to the wash.

Try spraying with lemon juice and setting them out in the sun, this will make them fade. Often if I have mildew I just throw it away it is so hard to get out. Good luck.

I've tried the Dreft stain remover first and wash the clothes by themselves. If that doesn't work then try Goo Gone or DeSolve it...both are in a plastic container and orange. The smell is orange too which sometimes bothers people but you spray the troubled areas, let it sit for about 5 minutes and then run it through the wash again, by itself. If it got everything out, then wash it again without any stain remover to get the orange smell out. It's alot of work but I have had great results with all these removers. If all this doesn't work, I've heard of paint remover too. I wouldn't know how to use it though. Seems like Martha Stewart has something on her website on how to get tough stains out. You may want to check on her website and do a search. Also, if the clothes are red...you may not want to use the last two mentioned!

W., you might try adding white vinegar in the wash cycle.
I have used this to remove stains from my grandaughters clothes and it works pretty well.if you have not dried the clothes in a dryer the spots may come out easy. Hope it works.

Try soaking the clothes in warm water with OxyClean. It takes out just about anything. (We had great success with red wine that had been spilled 2 days before.) When you put the clothes into the washing machine, use Spray N Wash on the spots too, just to make sure they come out. Those 2 things should take care of it.

I've had other types of stains that I didn't pretreat. . I soaked them overnight, after being washed and dried, in a solution of oxy clean and baby detergent with just enough water to cover the clothing. The stains have always come out. It has worked on lots of stains (food, grass, red sauce, marker...) I hope it helps mildew, too.

Bleach or diluted bleach will take out the stains. Perhaps try vinegar and lemon juice first. You can also soak in borax and biz with hot water then wash as usual. Don't leave on too long without trying something. peroxide is a good choice. The suggestions may damage the color, but the clothes are ruined as it is. Start with the natural things lemon juice, vinegar, soaking in Biz and Borax,(throw in a handful of baking soda,) it does wonders, Then try the peroxide, last alternative-diluted bleach changing to stronger as progresses. Ammonia is a good stain remover, but DO NOT USE WITH BLEACH, it will put off toxic fumes. Good luck.

I used some Mildew remover on a bib that had the same thing. Just becareful, because it took the color out of the bib. Try putting it on the item and washing it immediately.

This is the only thing that has worked for me. I had the same problem with a very expensive outfit that I eventually threw away after trying colored bleach, stain removers, and various other items.

I hope this helps.

Hello W.,
At the Dollar General Store, they have a product called Mean Green. I have used it for ground in dirt, mold and mildew and many other uses. Simply spray it on the clothes and wash. I would rewash again since it is for your baby but it ALWAYS worked on getting stains out for me. Also, when I would spray it on certain colors like purple, the spray may turn the fabric pinkish I guess something in it but it was never discolored when it came out of the wash, always the original color. Best of Luck...

Been there...done that! Pretreat with Clorox Color safe bleach (may dull fabric a little, but shouldn't ruin it like regular bleach would) then wash in hot water with Dreft or All Free n Clear. You can repeat if necessary. This has worked many times for me and I hope that it helps you too!
