Believe it or not, I've NEVER taken midol or anything for when I'm menstruating. I'm thinking I wanna try it. What do you think of it?Good results? Bad results? It says it contains a diuretic- does it make you get up in the middle of the night a few times?

So What Happened?

Thank you all very much! I can always count on helpful advice from you! This time around I didn't get Midol... I may get it later. Or I may go for a natural remedy. My periods are sometimes excruciating (I just endured the awful pain) and other times not so bad at all. I didn't get a period after my third child, I just went straight to pregnancy, so it's been a while (2 years!) since I had periods... also, I have FOUR kids now instead of two, and keeping up with that many kids and feeling crappy at the same time made me consider the midol:)

I works as far as pain no better than advil or anything else. I think it dose help some with bloating. It does make me have to pee a lot but never enough that I have woken up at night to have to go. Might depending on the timing of taking it too. I have never taken it right before bed b/c it also has caffeine in it.

It has been years since I took it. I can't speak about the diuretic. Don't remember that being an issue. But I had terrible cramps. It worked wonderfully! I felt good.

From a wholistic perspective, here are some thoughts:

I have used the herb Crampbark. It works very well. I took it in a liquid tincture form. It does also come in a tablet. If you like more info. please feel free to email me. You can google it. Just follow label directions and it's straight forward. I'd also suggest red raspberry and nettle tea mixture. Or some vitex tincture.
Hope that helps,
L.

I JUST tried this for the first time in my life. I am 38
hated it. I did not realize it had caffeinne in it. I would strongly recommend that you not take it after 2pm. I laid awake for 3 hours before I got close to passing out that night...
now on the flip side...I popped 2 in the morning...because I was tired and was able to clean the entire garage! ha!
no joke. but I was not really a fan of the highly aggitated state it put me in...to figety from all that cafeinne...
that's just my take...and otc meds always effect everyone different!

You must have been blessed with fairly mild periods to have lived without it this long!!! --- The caffeine doesn't bother me, but if you're sensitive to that I guess I would take the advice to take it in the morning. I like the mega multi action 12 hr pills and I take them twice a day for the first 3 or 4 days of my period. I did not have increased urination. ---- If I'm wrong and you don't have mild periods you will find this is a God send!

The Midol works great for me...no side affects. Pamprin however makes me soooo tired.

Midol is a wonder drug for me. Doesn't make you get up in the middle of the night, just relieves all the ick of PMS. You feel more like yourself. I've been taking it for 15+ years and found it works better than any other similar drug for me.

For me, the diuretic is what saves me during the first few days of my period...it relieves the bloating, which is what causes most of the cramping. You should drink a lot of water when you are taking it, but it has never made me need to use the bathroom more than normal. The problem ingredients for me in midol are the anti-histamine (they make me sleepy) and the caffeine (I am really sensitive to it and it makes me really jittery.) I use Women's Tylenol which only has tylenol and the diuretic, but it's really hard to find.
Good Luck!
