Just wondering if anyone else saw Michelle Knight interviewed on CNN, responding to this beautiful girl in California who was abducted and held captive for a decade. Apparently some jackass fools made comments about how this girl could have left if she had wanted to. Michelle broke down during this interview, commenting about how no one can possibly assume they know how this young girl felt for so long. She commented that chains don't have to be visible. They can be just as powerful a weapon as the words that were used to instill fear into the heart of this victim.

I was so angry for her. I wanted to reach through the television screen and embrace Michelle Knight. And, if I was able, I wanted to slap into unconsciousness the brazen fools who commented that this girl was a willing participant and victim. What a brave, brave soul Michelle is - how eloquent a woman she is.

I was just wondering what your opinion was about this.

It isn't jst the fact that she was totally brainwashed and believed she had to stay. It's also the fact that the man who held her appeared to be a nice guy in public.

I was in a similar situation years ago and no one I mean NO ONE believed me that he was abusive. It took over 2 years for me to find a person who believed me.
The common thought was he's great and she's crazy. OOOOO that poor man. Putting up with her.
I vowed if someone told me they being abused I would do whatever I could to help. And I have including taking them into my home.

I also admire Michelle Knight's strength and courage both during the captivity and since her escape. She is poised, articulate and a role model of forgiveness. We can all learn from her.

I look at the idiots and their comments the same way as I look at the childless people who try to share their child-rearing wisdom with new parents. Until you experience it personally, you have no idea what you're talking about.

My 89 year old (now deceased) father and I debated that. I was so angry with him. He, too, felt all captured girls, now grown, could have left. Lord!

"Do not judge me until you've walked in my shoes." IMO, even then we are not in any position to judge, and shame on those who feels compelled to do so.

I have to share one of my favorite poems by B. Powers. He sums my views to a T

Who Am I To Judge?

I have not heard
the music within your being
nor felt the rhythm of your life...
How can I criticize your song
or even your singing?

I have not dreamed your dreams
nor seen your visions
nor designed your castles...
How can I say
you are walking
in the wrong direction?

I have not plumbed
the depths of your feelings
nor felt the intensity of your needs
nor known the agony of your hurts...
How can I say
you should not cry?

I have not known the questions
you have asked
nor heard the answers you were given
nor witnessed your encounter with mystery...
How can I say
you are not living?

I have not walked
the path of your youth
nor stood at the crossroads of your decisions
nor journeyed the roads of your daily living...
How can I say
your life is not true?

I have not known
the pain of your sufferings
nor the intensity of your battles
nor the humiliations of your defeats...
How can I say
you do not try?

Yet, My Sister, My Brother,
These I have both
said and done.
Forgive Me!

This is like the earlier post about why people feel like they need to share their opinions on something they know nothing about. They're only exposing their ignorance to the world.

Last night I was unable to send flowers/answer questions..not sure what the problem was, but so glad I'm able to now.

I didn't see the interview you are talking about & am so glad I didn't. I would be angry too. I am currently reading the book Michelle Knight wrote about her ordeal..and even ordeal is to mild of a word. She had an extremely hard life before she was kidnapped and then a life of hell chained, locked and raped by that creep. The book is called Finding Me. I encourage you to read it.

She indeed is a brave woman & after reading the book anyone can see that she was not able to leave..he even locked those girls in a van, chained and locked them inside, stuffed their mouths with dirty socks and taped their mouths...that was so when he was expecting people over to his house no one would become suspicious should they make any noise and be heard!

My heart goes out to her and the two other girls who lived through the torture of this despicable man.

Is the woman in California much different from some women who stay in abusive relationships? Fear of threats and retaliation for leaving. Fear of judgement from others. Not having the financial means to live independently. She may not have been chained up and locked in like Michelle was, but I have know women who were just as much prisoners because of their fears.

This "kidnapping" seems a bit bizarre. She worked , had a car, access to the internet and could come and go unlike Michelle. Think there is more to this story.
