In about 25% of women metformin causes side effects which may include abdominal discomfort, cramping, diarrhea and nausea. The side effects may be severe enough to make the woman stop the metformin medication. We are not aware of any serious complications resulting from metformin treatment.

Don't worry....Metformin has nothing to do with the travel of the egg and where it attaches....

Metformin induces ovulation....nothing else....

This isn't related to pregnancy. I've been doing some research on Vitamin b-12 deficiency because a friend has been told that she is deficient. During this I learned that Metformin has many side effects and can result in a Vit B-12 deficiency. My friend had the upset stomach, diarrhea, etc with it and so quit taking it after a week. I didn't do any research on Metformin but the sites I read concerning B-12 deficiency suggested that there are better ways of controlling blood sugar and to consider not taking Metformin even if you did ot have a deficiency now.

I'm not wanting to increase your concern and hopefully your doctor has already discussed side effects and the two of you have decided that this is still the best medicine to take.

I have read some articles that say there is a very slight increase in chance of ectopic with clomid. Some say no and some say very slight. So, who knows. I have not come across any, however, linking metformin to ectopics. I took metformin to help regulate cycles when trying to get pregnant this last time and it worked well. I just had to make sure I took it with enough food to avoid stomach cramps.

Metformin did have a couple side effects for me but they went away after a week. It didn't help with the regulation of my periods. And it has nothing to do with how or where the egg attaches. Fertility drugs may increase the chance of an ectopic just because they increase the chance of eggs maturity so they are ready to be fertilized. Its not the actually treatment that causes the tubal pregancy. I took clomid and seraphine to get pg with my first two children. No tubal pregnancys. I hope you find the answer you're looking for.
