Lately when I have been having my "red week" I have been getting extremely bad cramps. I take Midol, use the heating pad, & let hot water from the shower run on my stomach. Nothing seems to be working. Does anyone have a special remedy they use???

What can I do next?

I have always used Valerian from Henry's. It is a natural muscle relaxer. That with Tylenol for bad days and I was good to go. If you get a tinfoil taste in your mouth then you have taken too much. Follow the dosage on the bottle. I can also use it for when I am too restless to sleep. I prefer it to drugs like Ambien. It is non-habit forming.

Are you using any form of birth control? From my very first period I have suffered terribly with cramps and PMS to the max. For me the only thing that works is taking Ortho-Tricyclen. I have switched to other pills, even tried the Nuva-ring, and once again had horrible cramps to the point I can't function not to mention the PMS. My doc put me back on Ortho and the cramps are gone. Now I have very mild or no cramps. The doc and I have decided I am just one of those women who needs extra hormones. Check with your doc and see if you two can find something that works for you. There is no need to suffer!!! Good luck!

I would either ask for a prescription for naproxen sodium or take 2 Aleve. The bottle tells you to take just one Aleve but there are only app 220mg. A prescription pill has 500mg. I used to have horrible, horrible cramps, and that is the only thing that would come close to working.

Good luck, J.

Mydol does not touch my cramps. I usually take Advil or Naproxen (Aleve). You could also get a prescription from your doctor that might help. Good Luck!

The name escapes me now, but it is possible you are deficient in one of the minerals. (Iron, zinc, etc...) Check with your doctor or a dietitian. Good luck to you.
