Birth Control Pills/ Cramps/ Remedies OH MY

Please help... I've been on Seasonique for about 3 years. It is the birth control that you take for 3 months then have one period, then take for three more months etc... I take it because since my last two kiddo's I have HORRIBLE cramps. UNBEARABLE cramps that start about a week before my period starts and last about a day into the period. I hurt from my knees to my chest and all the way around.

I'm 38, I'm overweight and I've been reading up on the side effects. I already have migraines and had just had two babies back to back when I started the pills. So, when I read that my weight gain could be related, my migraines could be aggrevated and that I shouldn't even be taking it with some of the medicine I use for my migraines, and all the other things that could be happening, I've decided I need to get off of them.

I plan to start my workout regimen again and I think that will help (getting in better shape) but I'm writing to see if anyone has any cramping rememdies that work. I'm terrified of what is to come!

Please help!

What can I do next?

This may sound terrible, but if you are in that much pain, and can't get anything else to work, your doctor can prescribe you a painkiller to use during that time. Personally, I take 3 advil, 2 tylenol all at once and that does the trick. Dr. said it was safe! Roughly the equivalent to a prescription painkiller. You have to remember, especially if you are at all overweight, that medicine dosages on the bottle are designed for the "average", and you may need a little more. Check with your doctor!

I used to get really bad cramps too. I took the advice of a close friend and started taking Yasmin birth control pills and I have also watched my caffeine intake. I try not to eat chocolate or coffee, except for my occasional soda, amazingly it helped, I don't get cramps anymore.

Hi C.,
Since I have had periods I had the most HORRIBLE cramps. Even in High school I would have to take the whole day off because the pain was so unbearable I wouldn't be able to concentrate on school work.
Unfortunately the absolute "only" thing that helped was the BC pill. I have been taking LoEstrin 24 now for the past couple of years and never have cramps....unless I skip a month of pills.
I requested the lowest hormone of pills and that's what they prescribed me so you might want to give them a try. You sound like your cramps are as bad as mine so I think it will really help you out.

If you want to completely stay away from any type of BC pills, try motrin a couple of days before your cramps start. IB Profin is great for cramps and I heard fromn an OB GYN on Oprah that taking the medicine a couple of days before you start will get the medicine in your system and work better.
Heating pads almost always help me pretty quickly but not always the most convenient.

Good Luck and hope you find something that works for you.
I know those cramps are the worst!

Don't know if this will be the cause of your problem, but mine were caused by low thyroid. I had heavy periods too and once I started taking thyroid, everything was "normal" again!

Hi C.,
I can TOTALLY relate to what you are saying about the horrible cramps. Just this past month I started taking Fermalite and Dong Quai for my cramps and I didn't have ANY cramps during PMS last week. I really was skeptical, but I was totally surprised that this really does help the cramping. In fact, I felt no cramping at all and I'm usually in lots of pain. So for me this stuff is a blessing!!
Here's the links to get more information and to order the Fermalite-

and the Dong Quai - http://www.nativeremedies.com/dong_quai_for_menopause.sht...

I hope these help you as much as they've helped me. Let me know if you have any questions.

A.
