I have been a Melaleuca customer since March 2010 and quickly feel in love with the products and the company and in June decided to become a marketing executive on a part-time basis (I work full-time as an accountant as well).

I completely believe in this company and the products but I’m REALLY struggling with approaching people to become a customer or to start a business of their own. I know it sounds silly but I don’t really know what to say to people and how to convince them how awesome the products and company are. I’ve always struggled with words. To top it off, I have a shy side too.

In my organization, there are some very successful people who are well known within Melaleuca but even with that, I don’t have a very good support system within my group and have considered canceling, finding a new group and re-enrolling in 6 months with someone else. The person who enrolled me is not doing much with her business so she referred me to the person who enrolled her and she’s not responsive at all. So I went to the person who enrolled her and this lady seems to want to help but is undependable and very hard to get a hold of and lives out of state. (She actually called me once specifically to set a time to call me back and then never called back!)

I would love to connect with other Melaleuca business builders in the Phoenix area. I will gladly accept any advice or suggestions you might have…I really need help learning how to approach people. Thank you all!

So What Happened?

You're all so awesome. Thank you for the words of wisdom, advice and sharing your stories with me. I really appreciate Shelley R's response to the ripoff website. Melaleuca is a great company but there's one in every crowd I guess. I really want this to work out for me. I'm pretty stubborn and don't give up easy. I'd also like to work with my friends and if I ever go to convention, I'd love to go with friends. Since my group is out of state, I really don't know any of them. It's a very successful organization though. l'll start working my way through all the suggestions and offers for help. Thank you again!

I try to work into the conversation. I find that many people are set in their ways and don't want to switch their shopping habits and brands.

I also have not been able to do much on the building side, my upline (even tho in state, here in AZ) is not very supportive if you don't director in a timely manner. I am thinking about calling Melaleuca to see about getting on another team.

I don't use melaleuca products because I have sensitivities that make the smell of tea tree oil hard to tolerate, even for a few seconds. Obviously, I don't sell the product, either, but my sister has, as well as a couple of other acquaintances of mine. As far as I know, all of them have since dropped that means of making an income, but I don't know all their reasons.

I do know that one of them became concerned about the safety of tea tree oil when used in children after a report of apparent endocrine disruption in a young boy who grew breasts. While that extreme response is rare, it has happened occasionally in other children, too, and there are medical people who go so far as to say children should not be exposed to even small amounts on a regular basis. There is too much evidence that it can cause hormonal disruption, which, along with all the other hormone disruptors in our modern chemical lives, can eventually result in severe problems, up to and including cancers of the reproductive organs.

So, before you consider selling products that use this ingredient so freely, I hope you'll research the safety aspect. You can google "melaleuca, safety" and get quite a range of concerns. Here's one report from a woman within the organization addressing safety issues not being acknowledged by sellers: http://www.ripoffreport.com/home-based-business/melaleuca...

Did you join with a team or an individual? Of course, we all join with individuals but sometimes they are a part of a larger team with a marketing system/ trainings set up. I would give your current support system (the people in your 7 geneations above you) a second chance, contact them all and see who is willing to take the time to help you, they have a vested interested in helping you succeed. Try to contact them one more time to see if anyone will step up and help you.

I wouldn't encourage you to cancel, but at the same time, you must do what you feel is best for you in the long run. Check out the LIA for meetings in your area and call business dev to see if they can put you in touch with a local Executive Director.

I wish you the best, Melaleuca is a great company to be a part of. I have been a customer for 6 years now and doing the business since I started.

To those people who go to the rip off site to view Melaleuca, be sure to look at the responses, there are so many positive things on there. Also, you will find every company on the rip off report no matter who it is. The rip off report is a rip off in itself, the owner of the site has been investigated for fradulent/unethcical business practices.

Melaleuca is a very reputable company with wonderful products.

I have the same problem with a different product line. I use them. I like them. I know people have been greatly affected positively in their health,
( live testimonials) but I have a block. How do you tell someone that has a health issue that they need to give their body what it needs to heal itself
when they are programmed to take pharmaceuticals and pay a doctors who have chosen to treat symptoms and not root causes? I know mel is the same kind of thing from the cleaning products end of things, and that's a great idea. However, I had to send the emptied liquid laundry soap back,
because we were all allergic to it! They said 'it happened sometimes' and refunded everything quickly. But I couldn't sell it after that.

If your rep isn't doing her job, tell her you need this help. But I think you should consider asking the people you know, your friends, family and church members you know to help you get started by trying something
and telling THEIR people, etc. That can grow pretty fast. Just let them know it CAN cause allergic reactions and that the company will refund the money quickly.

Peace and Love

I was with Melaleuca too and I do looove the products but I cancelled, the business was just not for me. I've always been on the shy side too so that was my biggest pitfall along with just not devoting enough time and energy into it. You really should get in touch with someone in your upline, it goes up 7 layers which means they are making commission off you and are vested in your success. Have you enrolled anyone yet? If so then along with your commission check they'll have the names and contact info of everyone in your support line. If you're not getting checks yet then you can probably get that info from the business center online or you can call the business support line. I still have a bunch of stuff that I would forward to my enrollees, some of it about approaching. If interested pm me your email and I'll forward it to you. Good luck!

I myself joined this group and that is one of the main reasons I quit was because there was not much of a support group most of my upline was out of state as well. These top dogs can talk about how much money they make all they want too. My question is when did they step onto the band wagon because in my experience these type companies the only ones that ever really make it were the ones that got in early.
I also came to the realization as well that most people are just set in their ways. You are not going to be able to convince a person that has done something the same way for years and I mean years there is a different way to get these type of products combined with ALL the other MLM companies out there it has tainted the industry. When people hear you say something about it they automatically begin to tune you out because of what society or media has said about MLM companies. Sure there are quite a few that do and have made it in the business and all I can say is good for them but trying to duplicate it for others is almost impossible in my opinion! Good luck for you because it just didn't work out for me but I did indeed love their products.
