Hello,
My husband has a daugter from another women, and according to the paper work we are to pay for her medical coverage,
My question is, ( we do pay for medical) do we have to pay for Dental and Vision?
Because those are add ons to medical. and i'm not for sure if thats something the mom usally pays for or if it was suppose to be added on to the medical.
Thank you

Major Medical is what required in Texas, not sure in Georgia. But here's the key - Whatever he doesn't put on his insurance will be paid out of pocket. Out of pocket expenses are supposed to be split between mom and dad. So, if he doesn't add the coverage and they go to the dentist it will be a lot more than if he just adds the coverage now.

I would ask your lawyer. Personally, I would expect the child's coverage to be the same as a child that is living at your house.

I should think that this would be explicitly covered in the divorce decree, and if not, your husband should go back to court and get it clarified.

Personally, I would think that as a parent, the question is not just what he has to do under the law, but what he should want to do for his daughter, since his interest in this little girls welfair did not end with the demise of the relationship with her mother. I am sure that there is a degree of what is equitable distribution of responsiblity for this child, but, the primary desire for any parent is to see to it that the child has all the care they need, even if they have to pay more than thier fare share for that child to get it.

In any case, that it is not clear to your husband, means that it is not clear to the child's mother eihter, and they need a riliable court document that does not leave room for interpretation so that everyone is on the same page.

If this is his child, he should be paying for 1/2 of all her expenses. Typically, this would be spelled out in child support, but perhaps a lawyer could help with fairly laying this out or should be asked if it's not spelled out as dental can be really expensive w/o insurance. Dental and vision may be easy to add on and would make it less expensive than obtaining separately, so there could be some savings doing it that way. So if he were paying for those 3 items, for example, then other things may be paid for by mom like school clothes, for example.

just do the right thing and get it for her........if parents would stop the bickering about who does what for their child then it would make everyone's life much better & the courts less congested

I would add the dental as far as vision well you can get an eye exam pretty reasonable and glasses as well. If she'd need eye surgery then shouldn't that be covered under medical? if not then I'd get the vision as well.

Dental and vision fall under medical care. You can always pay out of pocket for those things but it can add up fast especially dental so weigh out which way might be more cost effective.

But really the first person to ask this question is your husband's attorney.
