Meat/Yogurt

My 9 month old daughter just started eating meat (chicken and turkey) and recently yogurt as well. Her stools went from hard to really runny. Has anyone else had this problem with their baby? I have decided to stop both for a little bit. Will try to introduce slowly again.

Also, on a side note, how long did everyone feed their baby oatmeal? I heard that it is a good source of iron. I was pumping to express breastmilk to go with it but am thinking of weaning by the time that she is one year old and I want to cut down on pumping. I have never used formula and am wondering if it is ok to make with water. Thanks for any advice!

What can I do next?

Hi M.,
Both of my boys hated it with water. I mixed theirs with fruits and yogurts (of course that wont help right now if your little on is having trougbles with yogurt) and finally thought at almost 2 it was silly to still buy "baby" oatmeal and switched to "regular".
Good Luck!

This past week, I have started making my own baby oatmeal. I just grind up the regular stuff in the blender before cooking it. Then I warm breastmilk (because I am new at it, I also end up needing water or a little juice-it was too thick). I freeze them in ice cube trays. I just pull out cubes in the morning and warm. They are sticky when I reheat them so I add some applesauce at that time.

My sons diapers have been more solid since doing this. He had been on rice cereal and baby oatmeal prior to this step.

you can use water but you may want to incorporate whole milk or even use both water & whole milk......i stopped using oatmeal & rice around 9-10 months......but i used whole milk starting at 6 months, mind you i only breastfead.....but my kids weened themselves at 9 months & went straight to whole milk......you can also cut up tiny pieces of chicken/turkey & mix it with applesauce to help moisten the meat.

I always made my child's rice, oatmeal, and barley cereal with water - and he hasn't grown a tail (yet)! I did use EBM and formula but he hated it (it seemed to make it very thick and pasty, maybe I didn't use enough - who knows!) Seriously, mixing it with warm water is just fine.
