Man-o-pause Anyone?

Hi,
I have a couple of questions about some symptoms my father is having. He is a healthy 65 year old man and the other day he told me he's been having, what sounded to me like, hot flashes for months now. He said all of the sudden he would just burst out in a sweat and run for the cooldest thing near him to plung his head into. I instinctually laughed and could not contain my laughter when I told him it might be "manopause" (poor guy totally fell for it!). After about 30 minutes of outrageous laughter, I told him manopause wasn't real and that I'd look into it for him. So, has anyone ever heard of old men gettng hot flashes? He has also had really bad nausea in the morning, accompanied by adversion to food, for the last few weeks but I think that may be a bug or allergies because my mom has it too. Any thoughts?
Thanks ladies,
S.

So What Happened?

Hi ladies and thank you all for your wonderful advice. As it turns out, the trick is on me (well, my husband actually). "Andropause" is an actual thing that happens to men. Over time, men gradually lose testosterone and when it gets below a certain level, they develop sympomts of, what we know of as, menopause. http://www.everythingandropause.com/articles/dhea.php It turms out he is just reaching this point in his life. After much of you suggested cancer I began checking in with him daily. He has no other ailments or symptoms and is feeling fine.
Thanks again,
S.

He should call his doctor and make an appointment soon.

I was 7 weeks postpartum when I found a small, pea-sized nodule on my collarbone. No one thought it was anything, but I was asked all the normal questions: are you nauseated? do you have night sweats? are you fatigued? are you losing weight?

I was 7 weeks postpartum! Everyone thought it was related to pregnancy hormones getting out of my system and having 2 kids under the age of 2. Then, 2 days before my 33rd birthday, I was diagnosed with cancer.

Testosterone is the main hormone related to male sexuality. There is a condition discussed on WebMD called "AndroPause" - here's a link for you to review:

And here's what MayoClinic.com says about "Man-o-Pause":

I hope it's nothing, but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

S.,
I would suggest he goes to see his regular doctor and get some tests done. You never know, maybe it's nothing to worry about and they can just give him something to help him out. I would swear that man pms aswell! :) lol

I knew someone with similar symptom (nausea, hot flashes, cold sweat) and that person had toxoplasmosis. But with these symptoms I think there are a number of possibilities. I would urge your father to see a doctor.

They could have some sort of food poisoning. I would get this checked by a dr. My aunt ignored her symptoms and wound up in the hospital in intensive care and almost didn't make it. It attacked her intestines, etc and she would up having to have part of them removed and a bag put in. Please don't let them ignore their symptoms, especially becasue both of them are this way.

Men do go through a menopause it is called andropause and they have the same symptoms as women do. Go to Dr. John Lee, MD's web site you will find a lot of good information there. I have several clients (males) that use a Natural Balancing Cream and it has helped them it can be used for both men and women to help put them back into balance. If you are interested in more info please send me a private response.

Well you could tell him he's pregnant because of his nausea in the morning, see if he buys that one.

A simple blood test will show his testosterone levels. I would also have his thyroid checked, another simple blood test. The thyroid is responsible for metabolism and varying levels can affect hot/cold intolerance, appetite, energy levels and other things related to metabolic processes. It's very common.
