Making up a Children's Story . . .

I posted awhile back about my idea of crocheting a blanket for my son's preschool teacher using colors of yarn picked out by the children. Well, I finished it!! I am so excited as are the other mothers of my son's classmates. So as to not ruin the surprise, the children were not told what the yarn they picked out was for--some children didn't directly pick out the yarn, but just said what their favorite color is and I included that color in the blanket.

Anyway, I have another idea. I thought it would be cute to write a short little children's story about the blanket. Something along the lines of, "Once upon a time, there was a _________ (mother bear, sweet little lady, etc) who did so much for her little cubs, children, etc." My problem is this: I am NOT a creative writer!! However, I know some of you ARE! Do you have any ideas or direction I could take this? I would love ANY input or suggestions you can give me. I really want this gift to be special. The teacher lost her mother (her best friend) on Christmas morning and her father three weeks ago. She is amazing with the children.

Whatcha got for me? THANK YOU!!

What can I do next?

Once there was a lady, sweet as a peach
Who one day decided to teach
She taught us to write and read
She gave us skills that we will need
She took the time
to make us all shine
She helped us get to the goals we needed to reach.

Mediocre at best. LOL

How about asking all the kids to write the one thing they like best about their teacher and include those letters with the blanket? Then the parents can do the same.

I take mine back, Mary's is much better!

The children have picked out colors; why not do a story with the colors in it?

Once there was a garden bed, brown and sad-looking. It needed a gardener. One day a nice lady looked at that patch of dirt and thought, "What a wonderful place! I'll try to do something here." So she worked every day. She made the dirt rich and strong, easy for flowers to grow in. Somebody gave her a packet of flower seeds, so she planted them and was excited to see what would happen. She watered them every day so they would begin to grow. The little plants began to poke up out of the ground. The lady gave the baby flowers the plant food that they needed. She kept their bed clear of weeds. She worked hard and lovingly. The plants grew taller and stronger. Finally, at the right time, the flowers were ready to bloom. And what flowers! They were all different and all colorful. Some were red; some were blue. Some were yellow; some were orange. Some were tall; some were short. Some had lots and lots of petals, and some had just a few amazing petals. What a beautiful garden it was! How thankful she was that she had worked so hard! How thankful the flowers were that she had taken such good care of them and helped them grow!

That's a start - you can go from there if you like. And if you remember what child picked out what color, you can write, "From Andy (purple), Marie (orange), James (red), Bella (pink), Candace (pink),,," and so on.
