My daughter wants a "flower" party for her 5th birthday this year and has been consistent in this request for the past three months, so a flower party it will be; but I have no idea what one would do at a "flower" party. Can anyone help me out with ideas?

The one idea I have come up with is "pin the petal on the flower". I could also make a cake decorated wtih real flowers. Other than that, I'm at a loss for ideas.

What can I do next?

Google - type in "flower birthday party ideas" and other phrases like that and see what happens. You'll probably end up with TOO many ideas :)

Some of the cutest pens I have ever seen were made with silk flowers hooked to the top with the pen covered in green tape as the stem. Just a thought. Any craft dept would have the green tape and you can get silk flowers any place.

Have fun.

Ooh! I would do a Garden Tea Party! You can make all the girls petal headbands or make them all flower fairies with wings and things! Give them cupcakes with petals on them, iced tea with petals in the ice, let them sit on toadstools! or on toadstool cushions under the table! Hang "ivy" like a table skirt, pull it aside like a curtain, and they can play with flower dolls, fairies, or eat there! If you serve tea, pipe flowers onto sugar cubes, serve with bitty tongs! Have each cup decorated with flowers, or buy fancy schmancy tea cups that have saucers and lids and spoons--try to get unbreakable everything--they are five after all! Cover everything with lots of flowers in multiple sizes! Give each girl a flower pen to take home (like they have at the bank/post office). There is SO much you could do! I hope this stimulates your thinking!! Make the centerpiece of real flowers, put icing flowers on the cakes, and faux flowers everywhere! Yeah! Have so much fun!

hello
FLOWERS balloons... you know those long thin balloons?? well, I have seen people actually make them into little flower pots with a daisy coming up.. it was so cute!! you could get some for decoration...

OR even paint/color real little flower pots.. use those as your goodie bag.. add fun little things to them..

You could send out invites on what look like SEED packets.. with all the party details.. they have those vintage looking packets...

setup a crafts table.. At Michaels artstore, they carry all these foam like decals... e.g. at Christmas they had (small) green foam trees and then you'd decorate them with all the ornaments/bulbs made of foam.. and the kids could hang them up..

Also, I know a lady whom as the children would win a prize, they got to go and pick a wrapped gift out of a treasure box... you could do a flower box.. decorate a medium/large sized box... with brightly colored paper. paint on or add flowers as decoration and put wrapped little gifts in it. they neednt be expensive.. bottles of bubbles.. crayons.. you know, things little ones might like..
also, what might be cute is some sort of flower pin for each child's hair.. either a bandana with little flowers on it.. or even just a single pin... again, they neednt be expensive..

a bean bag toss.. ??cut out holes in big piece of cardboard.. decorate backdrop with flowers and have kids toss the bean bagthrough it and win a prize..

a Sunflower bday cake.. might look cute.. you could do one giant sunflower ..bake cookies in the shape of flowers., let the kids decorate..

well best of luck and happy bday to your little one!!

For my daughters 5th birthday, I bought clay pots at Michaels. Then had the kids decorate them with those foam stickers. Then I poured soil into each one, had the kids plant a little flower, and sent them home with it.

Flower crowns instead of party hats! Or you could dress up a party hat with faux flowers, and then definitely a real flower crown for the birthday girl! Or depending on how many girls you have, Target sells a girls dress-up flower crown for $6(something). I got one for my daughter's stocking. I'm sure you'll also find flower crowns at party stores too. Good luck and have fun!

My daughter had a flower party when she turned two. I baked chocolate cake in small terracotta flowerpots, frosted it with chocolate frosting, sprinkles crushed chocolate cookies on top like dirt, and added some candy rocks. Then you can either put a fake flower in the pot or a real one (cut flower, obviously...). Everyone loved it. I think you can probably Google "flowerpot cake recipe" and come up with some ideas. Just make sure you wash the pots first and spray them with nonstick spray. Since your daughter is turning 5, for an activity you could have them pot a flower for the favor to take. Alternatively, look for clearance or sale fake flowers and have them make flower crowns. Love pin the petal on the flower. Cute idea! Have fun!

I would just stick with flower decorations & a flower cake. Then do normal kids party games.

teach the kids how to make flowers out of tissue paper, the folded/accordion-style ones! They're big & make a huge splash of color!

For the cake, try Kraft or Betty Crocker's websites.....one of them has a sunflower cake.

Lots of good ideas posted already.....way to go, ladies!

As an activity at the party, you could get flower seeds and tiny pots. Let them plant their own flower seeds (becames a party favor to take home). You can decorate pens or pencils w/ artificial flowers. Stick them in a small flower pot(s) to use as decorations and then they too can be a party favor for kids to take home. Let them make paper flowers with a center large enough to put their pictures in.

Also, ask your daughter exactly what she is thinking when she says a "flower party". That may help w/ more ideas too.

You can also do flowers for their girls hair instead of a party hat.

Headbands decorated with silk flowers glued on would make great favors. Those cheap flower leis from costume stores would be good too. You could give flower seeds or individually-planted flowers in tiny pots too.

We went to a "fairy" party last year where we made flower fairies. We used wooden clothes pins for the body, fake flowers and leaves that had been taken off the stem (so there was a hole to poke through the clothes pin). The we drew a face on with a marker and hot glued yarn for hair. They turned out really cute. The age range of that party was 4-6, s it would be right in with your daughter's age group.

A friend of mine had a flower party for her daughter and it was a blast. She bought inexpensive terra cotta pots for each guest and let them use paint or foam stickers to decorate them, and gave away seed packets as goodies. She also suggested that kids bring flowering plants as gifts (instead of toys) so that they could create a garden outside. The birthday girl got plenty of toys from family, so the potted plants were fun and it was exciting to see the different varieties that everyone ended up bringing.

Something great to do is Wax flowers. Each girl picks a rose or other flower (roses work best) holding it by the stem, first dip it in ice water, then wax, then back and forth until it is completely covered in wax, then let it sit to dry and cool. They can each take their flower home as a decoration, and it lasts forever (as long as they keep it somewhere out of the sun and heat, lol)

my nieces just made me flower pens wtih colored duct tape and glitter. The opposite end to the cap of a ballpoint pen was the flower end, the pen part was the stem. I am not sure how exactly they made them (they're 12 and 8), but I bet if you google it you'd find something.

There are also simpler ways to do something similar -- using pens and green floral tape with silk flowers.

This could be a decoration, party favor, or craft that all the kids make at the party.

Good luck and enjoy the birthday party!

You can make a cake out of different colored cupcakes - yellow petals in a circle, a different colored center, green ones lined up to form a stem, and so on. Someone brought one to our house and I thought it was really easy to do yourself. You can look on-line for ideas.

Pin the petal is a good idea, maybe a pinata with a flower shape if you have room for them to do this without whacking each other or the TV! I think you could adapt other games to this theme too - a flower-covered limbo pole, or play musical chairs with a CD you make with songs related to flowers ("Roses are Red, my dear..." "Tiptoe through the Tulips" and so on). You can just use snippets of each song to create the idea.

Decorate plain wooden picture frames with foam flowers & leaves (get at the craft store) or stickers, and then give each kid a photo of the party (or email afterwards).

You could give each kid a "name" for their identity that day - like Rose, Daisy, Petunia, Lily, Holly (okay, it's a bush!), and so on. Google your little heart out!

Have fun!

They sell little flower pots with a paper wrap-around insert that can be colored or painted and that might be a really nice take-home item instead of a treat bag....you could even use a small garden shovel to "scoop" in some Hershey kisses into them on the way out... Oriental Trading sells them.

www.orientaltrading.com and search for "artist flowerpots"

I agree, google it.

But, I would get a bunch of different kinds of flowers (real), put them in cheap dollar store vases, and use them as table decorators or give one to each family when they leave.
