Prop up the head of his crib or bassinet on books or small blocks--that will help with the congestion.
The cool mist should help too.
Good luck!
My three week old has a cold, which he probably got from my 2.5 year old daughter. He has productive cough and runny nose. So far no fever. He has difficulty breathing because of the runny nose, which is deep inside -- I don't see anything in his nostrils and I was not able to get anything using the bulb syringe/nose frida. I just bought a cold mist humidifier and am using it around the clock, and have also used saline drops, but have not really been successful in getting the mucus out. Is there anything else I could try? I hate seeing him struggling to breathe. Thank you!
It never even occurred to me to take him to the doctor because I thought it was just a cold...I'll be emailing the doctor on Monday to see if I need to take him in. Thanks for your responses!

put him in the bathroom when you have a steamy shower.
try vicks on his feet.
best to your little bundle.

I always found that slightly elevating the crib mattress to keep him on a bit of an incline helped my kids.
Just have to be careful not to make it big enough that he slides to the bottom of the crib! We had that happen once, too. :)
Stuff a bath towel underneath the mattress just so you can angle him a bit so that he's not laying flat.
That should at least keep his head draining.
And of course, coat him well him with Baby Vicks.
try alternating the hot steamy shower room for 10 minutes, then next to a window to breathe cold dry air from the outside for about 5 minutes.
The trick with using the snot sucker to get the "deep mucus" is to hold one nostril closed while cleaning the other gently. Not too hard though. Don't want to injure him.
When my son had a cold they just said to watch him and twicr a day use those salene drops and bulb syringe and don't bundle him up a lot. Other than that not much ypu can do. :( hope hr starts feeling better
My son slept in his car seat at the bottom of my bed from about 3 weeks to 2.5 months. His older sister kept getting him sick.
Watch for rsv. It is the season for it and it is deadly for babies. I would call the drs Monday and have him seen.
He is so young to have a cold. Did you call his pediatrician? They may want to see him even though you think it is just a cold. Even a cold can be dangerous to a newborn baby.
Make sure the doc swabs the baby for the flu and suctions stuff to test for RSV. Google them, especially RSV. It's like the common cold in kids and adults but in babies it's different.
These are illnesses that effect everyone but are much more serious in babies.
One of my babies had allergies, still does at 5 years old. I bought this little padded incline for him to lie on when in his bassinet, it helped him to be more comfortable. I think I bought it at Target or Babies R Us.
