My heart breaks for you. I don't even know what to say to you. I am a mother of a six year old and what you are going through is every parents worst nightmare. My sister was hit by a car and died at six years old and this poem helps my mother. I hope you don't mind me sending this to you but my mother passes it along when she hears of someone who lost a child. I hope it gives you the comfort it gives my mother.

God's Lent Child

"I'll lend you for a little while
A child of mine", God said --
"For you to love the while he lives
And mourn for when he's dead".

It may be six or seven years
Or forty-two or three:
But will you, till I call him back,
Take care of him for me?

He'll bring you charms to gladden you
And -- (Should his stay be brief) -
You'll have his lovely memories
As solace for your grief.

I cannot promise he will stay
Since all from earth return:
But there are lessons taught below
I want this child to learn.

I've looked the whole world over
In search of teachers true:
And from the things that crowd life's lane
I have chosen you.

Now will you give him all your love?
Nor think the labor vain?
Nor hate me when I come to take
This lent child back again?

I fancied that I heard them say -
'Dear Lord, thy will be done.'
For all the joys thy child will bring
The risk of grief we'll run.

We will shelter him with tenderness
We'll love him while we may
And for the happiness we've known
Forever grateful stay.

But should thy angels call for him
Much sooner than we've planned
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes
And try to understand.

Hi R.-
I am so so sorry for your loss. Here is a poem someone sent to me in a card after my mother passed away. I found the male version. It really did touch me & thought I'd share it.

Don't think of him as gone away-
his journey has just begun
life holds many facets
the Earth is only one

Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years

Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away

And think of him as living
In the hearts of those he touched
For nothing loved is ever lost-
And he was loved so much.

I really don't have any advice but I just wanted to say I am so sorry. I can't even imagine what you must be feeling right now. Stay strong and try to hang in there. That is so horrible!

I am very sorry for your loss. I have a friend who lost a child and she belongs to a support group called Compassionate Friends. They meet in Providence. It seems to really help her and she has received great support there.
