Need a Poem for My Sister Who's 5 Year Old Son Was Just Killed

I'd like to include a poem in my card to her for the funeral on Monday. She is the most faithful, God-loving person that I know and her son was a spitfire little comedian who was tiny if that helps. Thanks ladies!

What can I do next?

I am so sorry for all ofr you. I am sending all of you a healing heart.

My stepmother lost her daughter in a tragic accident about 5 years ago. This is the poem she used in the funeral program.

We thought of you today

We thought of you today.
But that is nothing new.
We thought of you yesterday
And we will tomorrow, too.

We think of you in silence
And make no outward show.
For what it meant to lose you
Only those who love you know.

Remembering you is easy.
We do it everyday.
It's the heartache of losing you
That will never go away.

My heart is simply aching for your family and especially your sister. I just put my 5 yr old in bed, and I can't even imagine losing her. Just did a quick search and found this poem...don't know if it fits what your looking for, but thought I'd send it just in case. May God give you His peace that surpasses all earthly understanding and comfort each of you now and always!

The Cord

We are connected,
My child and I, by
An invisible cord
Not seen by the eye.

It's not like the cord
That connects us 'til birth
This cord can't been seen
By any on Earth.

This cord does it's work
Right from the start.
It binds us together
Attached to my heart.

I know that it's there
Though no one can see
The invisible cord
From my child to me.

The strength of this cord
Is hard to describe.
It can't be destroyed
It can't be denied.

It's stronger than any cord
Man could create
It withstands the test
Can hold any weight.

And though you are gone,
Though you're not here with me,
The cord is still there
But no one can see.

It pulls at my heart
I am bruised...I am sore,
But this cord is my lifeline
As never before.

I am thankful that God
Connects us this way
A mother and child
Death can't take it away!

**********************************************************************
God looked around His garden and He found an empty place.
He then looked down apon this earth, and saw your little face.
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best.
It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn't go alone,
for apart of us went with you the day God called you home.

I am so sorry for the loss of your baby and for the loss of your nephew.

May the Good Lord be with you both and with your family in this time of need.

I am so sorry for your loss and for your sister and her family.
My heart aches for her. I will keep you all in my prayers. Following is a poem I wrote. Perhaps it may bring her some measure of peace.

When I’m gone, don’t cry for me.
We’re still together, you will see.
Because I know that God above
Will keep me close to you, my love.
For heaven is a joyful place
And joy to me is your sweet face.
So know I’ll be there night and day,
Right beside you all the way.

And when you go to sleep each night
In dreams we’ll meet ‘til morning’s light.
We’ll fly on wings the angels lend.
We’ll touch the sky and ride the wind.
We’ll sprinkle stardust in our hair.
We’ll slide down moonbeams and dance on air.
We’ll jump on cotton candy clouds.
We’ll run and sing, we’ll laugh out loud.

We’ll sail upon a starry sea
On a moonbeam boat, just you and me.
And stop high in the midnight sky
To watch the angels as they fly.
You can talk to me in the still of the night
And I’ll tell you everything’s going to be alright.
As timeless as the moon and sun
My love for you goes on and on.

When dawn creeps in on tippy toes
Your sleepy eyes will start to close.
And as the dark gives way to light
In my arms I’ll hold you tight
‘Til sunbeams start to paint the sky
And we shall have to say goodbye.
But when you wake, remember this
The wind that blows brings you my kiss.
And even though we are apart
I’ll live forever in your heart.

How heartbreakingly sad. This must surely be one of the hardest kinds of pain for a mother to endure. Here are the lyrics to a song that I passed on to a dear friend whose 13 year old granddaughter was killed in a freak accident. She found it comforting, and read it at the child's memorial service:

Healing, Part II, by Todd Rundgren

Where you are going
You cannot take your body
You are on a journey,
The baggage is too heavy

You can leave your legs behind you,
You will learn to fly
You can leave your arms behind you,
You will touch the sky
You can leave your head behind you,
You are thought itself
You can leave the rest behind you,
You are breath itself …

There are more lyrics if you want to google them, but this was the part that I found most focused on loss to death. My condolences to your family.

I have a place in heaven
Please don't sing sad songs for me,
Forget your grief and fears,
For I am in a perfect place
Away from pain and tears.

It's far away from hunger
And hurt and want and pride,
I have a place in Heaven
With the Master at my side.

My life on earth was very good,
As earthly life can go,
But Paradise is so much more
Than anyone can know.

My heart is filled with happiness
And sweet rejoicing, too.
To walk with God is perfect peace,
A joy forever new.

I don't have the whole poem on hand, but I am sure you can find it. Titled
"Do not stand by my grave and cry"
It's very beautiful and touching, and spiritual.

I hope that you and your family are doing as well as can be hoped for, and know that so many people are sending you our love, support and prayers. This is such a wake up call to all of us to remember how blessed we are, and not to take anything for granted. Prayers and hugs to you.

I want to start by saying I am so very sorry for all that you are going through right now. Just remember that tomorrow will always be a little easier than today.

I know you wanted a poem for the funeral and I'm a little late with that but I wanted to weigh in a little anyway. Several years ago I took a class on the Psychology of Death & Dying. One day we had a guest speaker named Shelly Wagner. Shelly had lost her 5-yr old son several years earlier and during her grieving process she started writing poems for Andrew. These poems are now published in a book called The Andrew Poems. It is a must for every parent who has ever lost a child, for you and for your sister. I cannot explain how powerful this book is. I found that you can still order the book through Barnes & Noble. You might find it on other sites too. Here's the link:

I will keep you and your family in my prayers. ((hugs))

I am so sorry for you and your family. I don't have a poem but when my Sisters Father-in-law died I got them this saying in a frame. "Because someone we love is in heaven, We feel heaven in our home." And I also think you should get her that Carrie Underwood song "Temporary Home" The last verse is about a father dieing and before he goes he tells his family not to cry and that he will see them all again one day because this was just his temporary home. It's very sweet.

Someone sang "A Mother's Prayer" by Celine Dion at my neices' funeral. It has 'she' rather than 'he' but it is about the death of a child.

I am SO sorry to hear this! I just lost a 2 month pregnancy to surgery because it was an ectopic and that has been hard to get over... If it was this hard to get over a child I never met I can't even imagine losing one I've known, loved, and nurtured for 5 years!!!! My heart goes out to her and everyone else! I will be praying!!! Love going out to you, and his mommy, Bethany.

I don't have one either but I want to send you my sympathy as well. Children are all innocent at that age and all children of God. I am very sorry for your loss.
