Hi there, My daughter just turned 8 months and I have her on what seems to be a good feeding schedule but i am looking for examples to see if i am on the right track. for example currently she eats like so...
7:30 - 8 AM: gerber 2nd foods Fruit, 4 Tbsp cereal. 9-9:30 AM 6 oz formula. 12 - 12:30 Gerber 2nd food fruit and vegetable. 2 PM 6 oz formula. 5 - 5:30 2nd foods meat and 4 Tbsp cereal. 7:30 - 8 6 oz formula and then bed. when and how do i start getting her to take the bottle with the meal and eliminate the need to feed every 2 hours? any advice would be great!

What can I do next?

My daughter is 7 1/2 months old and her schedule is as follows:
7:00 Bottle formula
8:30 a fruit and oatmeal
nap
10:30 bottle formula
1:00 a fruit and a veggie
nap
3:45 Bottle formula
5:30 oatmeal, fruit and veggie
7:30 Bottle/Bedtime

This is what my doctor rec. My daughter is doing well on this schedule however she is starting to not take a bottle before bed because she is sooo tired.
Hope this helps.

Hi. My son is also 8 months and I would say try feeding her more solids at mealtimes and also start giving finger foods at "snack" times (after morning and afternoon naps). Hope this helps!

I weaned my sons off the bottle when they were 8 months old. Boys tend to be slower than the maturity level of girls, your daughter may like using a training cup to drink during her meals. Tell her she is a "big girl" that may help encourage her also. I know she is little but we do talk to them way before they talk back, and you will probably sound excited to her when she works at drinking out of the training cup.

There's really no way around it as far as getting them to take the bottle with the meal, because they're usually too full from either the bottle or the food to do both. It gets much easier once they're around 10 months old and are taking finger foods though, I've found it was then that he would take some bottle with whatever he was eating and then it would be 3-4 hours before he's hungry again. I know, it's this 8 month old stage that's difficult when you feel like you just sit there and feed them all day!

I think the schedule looks great! One sugg: Is there any way you can squeeze in another formula feeding - around dinner time? My daughter is 7 1/2 mos. and her Ped said she needs 24 oz of formula.

I started giving her a sippy cup during meals just to get her used to sippy cup and having formula with meals. I don't think that starts until closer to a year...

Hope this helps!

A.,

I had to chuckle at your schedule because it is similar to my 10 month old's!! He only drinks a little water or watered down juice with his solids and then he nurses in between meals just like your baby!!

Sorry I don't have any advice for you. Just wanted to let you know it isn't just your little one though I'm ok with our schedule because it works for me at this time.

Hugs,

you will not likely get over feeding every 2-3 hours ever!!Kids need a snack 3 times a day, their tummies are smaller, and they are active,so they need that.I wouldn't introduce a bottle at mealtimes, that is a great place to introduce a sippy cup with water, juice,or formula.Have her get used to drinking with meals, and give crackers, cheerios etc with snack instead of a bottle. You could be introducing some "real" food at mealtimes, such as cooked carrots,bread/toast etc.

Your schedule looks great, I would think your right on track my daughter is 14 months old now and she was on about the same schedule at around 8 months old. At about 11 or 12 months their appetite changes a little bit I think they must go through a growth spurt about then. I know both of my kids did it about the same age, but they want to eat 3 bigger meals with a drink of milk or juice. Starting sooner than that may cause her to get overstuffed and get an upset tummy. Go with what your doing your doing great. :)

I recommend staying away from prcessed foods as much as possible. I found that cooking a buch of veggies and then puree'ing them worked well. The magic bullet is great! You can do this with fruit too. When she's older raw veggies will of course be appropriate! :)

Your schedule is great,

after they are 12 months and walking they start to eat 3 bigger meals per day, with a little juice or milk

but intruducing it earlier, could cause them to spit up,

atleast my kids did.

You get used to it, trust me its over before you know it.
