Does anyone know of a honest and reasonable service for heating and cooling that you would recommend. We need service on our air conditioner and also our furnace looked at. I know you can get taken sometimes by these big companies. I was wondering if anyone knew of anyone that may do this on the side or a place that you have had good luck with.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I received many references that I am going through and calling right now. Unfortunetly we received one for Four Seasons before all of your responces came in. Wanting to get this taken care of he called and made an appointment.What a HUGE mistake. They said they charged $89.oo for a tune up and cleaning. The guy was here over an hour and pretty much just hosed down our air conditioner ( which we could of done ourselves) and then checked the freeon and said we were low (which we had already told them we needed) they would not give us an estimate for freeon until they got here and then said it was $85.00 a pound. That is outrageous, I called many of your references and 4 out of 4 quoted me $20.00 a pound. A BIG difference. So I would NOT recommend FOUR SEASONS. They were a total rip off. Now we have to hire someone else and pay the $80.00 service call again. FOUR SEASONS would not do anything for us even though their ad says "100% SATISFACTION GUARNEETED" NOT SO.

The best thing I ever did was to add a maintenance plan to my Nicor account. For $15/month they come out in the fall and check your water heater and furnace and in the spring the check, clean, and refill your air conditioner unit. You get priority service at a discounted rate if anything goes wrong. You can upgrade to $20/month which includes a $300 repair/credit towards new unit. My neighbor has the plan too and we both love it! You can call Nicor for info.

I can recommend House of Heat (Oak Park). Family owned and honest. Not the cheapest, but the service is great and they sell products from good manufacturers.
We use Air Handilers. Their number is ###-###-####. It's a small family owned business and they are very reasonable and very down to earth. We have gone thru lots of different companies and this company has not only done a great job, but they are much cheaper than their competitors. A couple years back, they replaced our heater and air conditioner and from that point on, we only use them and recommend them to others in need. So far, they haven't let us or our friends down.

I reccomend Scully Heating and Air. They had done all the work on our house when it was built. We continued to use them when we purchased the house 9 years ago. Their pricing is fair and their customer service is wonderful, not to mention the little to no wait time with service calls. ###-###-####.

I have a guy that has done a good job for us on our furnace. He also installed a whole-house humidifier for us. He smokes, so smells like it. That's the only put-off. I have used the same company for close to 15 years and would not call anyone else. They are the most HONEST and the most REASONABLE company I have ever dealt with. They will fit you in as soon as possible, day or night and I feel I have never been overcharged. They have even told me once or twice over the phone things to try to fix the air conditioning or furnace to try to avoid me having to pay for a service call for a minor fix!
