Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find a pt job with full benefits? I'm willing and would like to work a little bit, but not full time...and my family needs the benefits. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Try the State of Minnesota or another public employer.

Barnes & Noble has benefits for part-time, but their definition of part-time, I believe, is at least 25 hours a week. Might be 30. The nice thing is since they're open every day, there's flexibility with the schedule.

I have heard Starbucks as well as Lunds/Byerly's have good benefits for part time employees.

Depending on how many hours you are willing to work, but as a previous employee of Allina Hospitals & Clinics, you should be able to get some decent benefits.I believe they consider you full time after 32 hours a week. Depending on your degree or work background as well. Typically the healthcare industry has decent benefits if you cannot work full time. Another place to look is within the county you live in. There are resources out there for you... just have to know where to look. Good Luck!

A.,
I was in your shoes a year ago. After looking at Starbucks, UPS,and the governement I decided the hours (20-32 per week away from home) and low pay were not worth it. I ended up purchasing idependant benefits for my family. Both Blue Cross and Preffered One have good plans. You can opean a Health Savings Plan to save money - these give you tax free health care dollars! It is a bit pricey, and the deductable is high, BUT I am home with my kids where I belong. I am working part time with an in home business to pay for the benefits!
Good luck - it is a very tough decision.

Starbucks is great. I worked there throughout college for the benefits because I got married when I was 18 and couldn't get my parents' insurance. You have to average 20 hours per week. They also have a wonderful stock option plan and I still own their stock. Full medical. Lots of other perks too like a free pound of coffee per week and free drinks during your shift. The flexibility of hours is really great, too.

Also, try the public sector, as others have also suggested. Getting a job in government is a little more competitive because everyone wants that. I work for the federal government part-time. There's full benefits. It is much more rare for the feds to offer part-time positions. The state has more of that. I had to move around to another agency to obtain a part-time position after our son was born.

Good luck!

If you can't find a job with benefits, you may qualify for medical assistance or minnesota care. For sure your son would qualify. All children in the State of Minnesota qualify for health care. We don't pay a dime for my daughter's insurance, check ups or prescriptions.
I don't know what kind of work you want to do, but I've heard that starbucks gives benefits to everyone who works 20 hours or more. Good luck!

Home Depot has benefits for full and part time associates. If you get hired on try to be something other than a cashier like a sales associate you make more money. Cashier's typically make $8-10 hour starting, Other positions in the store are usually $10-12 start.

I believe the grocery stores do too, like Cub etc. They're usually Union so good benefits.

If your not working you may qualify for Medical Assistance or MN Care for your family and most likely your son. Medical Assistance is free and you have to be pretty poor, like on welfare pretty much, wheras MN CARE goes by income and as long as your not extremely wealthy you should qualify and you would just have a small co-pay each mo. Both are excellant programs you have to apply for each seperately.

UPS offers full benefits for all of its part-timers, even if you work less than 20 hours a week. I'm not sure what positions they have open, but I do know they have shifts available throughout the day and night. Check out UPS.com for more info and good luck!

I think Ikea (out by the mall of America) gives benefits for part time employees. I never worked there but I was looking on their website a couple of years ago for a friend of mine and was impressed with what I saw. Check it out. They probably hire quite a bit.
