Has anyone had sleep problems such as walking, talking or just getting up out of the bed at night. Feel it is related to lack of sleep, and stress. I am experiencing this at different times.I get up out of my sleep, walk pass the bedroom door way, and get back in the bed. My husband fears I will jump up and hurt myself.

What can I do next?

since it seems this is you doing it, you might want to put something next to your bed that will create noise or a bad sensation when walked on - like tinfoil or bubble wrap or some bells on a string. This may make you wake up.

Your husband may want to put some type of lock on the outside doors to keep you from wandering.

You should also request a sleep study be done to find out what is going on.

Who is doing all of this?
If it is your children, then that sounds pretty normal. If someone is sleepwalking there are places that can help, if you are doing these things, being awake you could be extremely stressed or going through menopause or perimenopause, and if it is your husband he never did that before, has something happened to him? I myself am up almost all the time, it is the menopause things and I was a light sleeper anyway, my husband was a fireman before he came to this country, sleeps very soundly, but if an engine goes by he jumps out and says things sometimes, my children were always up. If you live in a household of six, you could have all sorts of people up. Once this is determined who is doing it, we can all maybe help a little more.

Hi A.. I'm sorry to hear that you (or one of your children) are having problems. I really struggle when I don't get enough sleep, so I know how awful these problems can be. I don't have any personal advice, but I do know of a great resource if you decide you need to speak to a specialized physician. Central DuPage Hospital has a wonderful Dept. that focuses on this specialty.

Well, it's not very common in adulthood but in children it is far more common. When I was a child (6-12 yrs) I use to sleepwalk-and it was related to stress. I grew out of it though--which is common. It could definitely be stress-related if you're slepwalking. People who sleepwalk though, don't know they're sleepwalking. I always knew because I woke up the next day banged up (stubbed bleeding toe or fat lip because I walked in to something) and my parents would confirm that I was in fact sleepwalking the night before. My father always grabbed me and put me back in bed (he chased me outside in his underwear at 3am one time--LOL).

Are you talking about yourself or your child?

Do you have a newborn, are you experiencing new things in your life? It could be a combination of stress and sleeplessness. If all you are doing is getting up and then going back to bed, you could be subconsciouly checking things out. For peace of mind, make an appointment with your doctor to talk about this.
