Hoping someone could possibly point me in the right direction of a reputable Lab breeder. My son turns 3 in September and we are hoping for one at that time. We lost both our elderly dogs in the past 2 years and being a SAHM I have tons of time to spend with a new pup. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm a Lab breeder. We own both parents and usually have about 2 litters per year. We may have one at the time you are looking. We take great pride in the puppies we produce and I can also give you references and pictures of past litters. I've never had a complaint. We also are not in any way a puppy mill. We aren't even a kennel. We have 3 labs and 2 pugs and take the time to educate, socialize, and play with our dogs daily. I've had a Lab since I was just a kid and I absolutely love the breed, especially with my kids.

Also, if I don't have a litter when you're ready, my father also has a lab that he is in the process of getting bred right now with my sister's sire. I would recommend a puppy of his to anyone. In fact, we are planning on get one from this litter as well for my 4-year-old.

I know someone who is a wonderful breeder. He thoroughly researched his dogs before purchasing them, had their hips checked via PennHIP (which I think is superior to OFA), had their eyes checked by an ophthalmologist for CERF, and worked hard to make sure they have good temperaments. He also researched the sires before breeding. He is the opposite of a puppy mill and is trying for a few litters a year, but I think he is planning one for around when you will be looking. These are field trial dogs and have a lot of energy and need a lot of exercise.

Whatever you do, if you go to a breeder (rather than a rescue), make sure that both parents' hips have been checked (preferably using PennHIP). So many labs have hip problems that it's irresponsible to breed them without having them checked first. Remember, just because a dog is a purebred doesn't make it a good dog. ANY two dogs with papers can produce a dog who can get papers.

We currently have a 3 month old daughter and a 2 year old yellow lab. They get along great and we got them from a breeder in Central PA. It was a hike to get there but they treat their dogs and the puppies so well. Their grandchildren visit with the puppies and they even get the puppies started with potty training. They have a website: www.labkennels.com and they are the Larke Lab Kennel. I would recommend them to anyone! My daughter and dog absolutely love each other and labs know how to be gentle enough when they are so young.
Depending upon where you are, I would strongly encourage you to seek out a Lab Rescue in your area. You can Google it, or search on Petfinder.com. There are MANY animals, even purebreds, that needs loving homes.

I don't know any breeders - I'm sorry. I would urge you to go to the humane society and look at there dogs to see if you could adopt one or two younger dogs that need a home. That's where our family got both of our dogs (lab mixes) and we've never regretted it. Good luck which ever way you choose.
