The Munger Inn is fun and quaint- free breakfast, bike rental, animals welcome and hiking trails close by as well as the vintage train close by!
We have a larger family and could use some help on finding an economical place for a summer vacation. Would like to go to the Duluth/Lake Superior/Lutsen area. We have two married daughters and 3 upper elementary/jr high children. Thank you.
Keep it coming! I am so excited everyt ime I see a response. Those with experiences and those who live near the area, THANK YOU THANK YOU! This is soooo ironic because I kept researching the web yesterday and would you believe, late yesterday afternoon, I'd made reservations at The Inn (as someone recommended) and another at the Edgewater Water Park!! again, recommended by a member here!! I thought it would be good to at least have a reservation secured, but I'm still open to looking...ideally, I think we'd like to have a cabin or resort so we have enough space and maybe end our time with a night at the waterpark. So thank you thank you for your responses! I so appreciate them as it's an overwhelming task.

A few years back we rented a wonderful cabin in the summer that was actually a ski lodge...it had air conditioning and also a fire place, satelite TV and a couple of bedrooms and bathrooms. This place is very expensive in the winter because it was very close to the ski lift, but in the summer their rates are very reasonable. I would search for 'ski lodges' in Duluth and see what you can find...as I can't recall the name of this place. Good luck!
I'm from Duluth originally and I concur w/ those who recommended the Edge...sounds like that's just the type of place you're looking for w/ the ages of your family members. Any of the hotels in the Canal Park area are awesome too, but you'll pay a huge price tag for those during the summer and it's hard to secure a reservation for any weekend. There are some lovely hotels/resorts along the north shore, we've stayed at Bluefin Bay up near Lutsen and that was gorgeous...big suite, beautiful views of Lake Superior, but again during summer it will be expensive. Good luck in your search and enjoy your summer vacation to the Duluth area, that's the best time to visit!:)
I live in Silver Bay (in between Duluth and Lutsen). Eagle Ridge resort in Lutsen usually has great deals during the summer (I have stayed there for a week for under $400). There are quite a few motels along Hwy 61 that will only be $40-$70 a night (and although they are cheap, they are clean and nice enough, if you don't plan on spending a lot of time in your room), otherwise nearly everything will be $150+ a night from Duluth up to Grand Marais.
I live in Cloquet, about 15 minutes from Duluth, and we take weekend "trips" to The Edge Waterpark. It is soooo much fun!! They have mini-golf, an arcade, restraunt/bar and indoor water park that will keep them busy all day! The rooms are really nice and the staff are all very nice.
The mountain villas! They are in the same driveway as Spirit Mountain but not part of the actual ski resort. They have 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and living room. I would highly recommend!
Hello. my name is L. and I live in Superior, WI. That's just across the bridge from Duluth. Have you thought of a place called The Edge? It's a water park (indoors) Hotel. They have deals for families.
Apostle Islands are kind of in that area. I personally have not been there, but I know lots of people that have traveled up there and said they loved it! Very Beautiful area!
Have a wonderful Summer vacation!

Gunflint trail, there are many
We have done many of the campsites through northern Wisconsin and Upper Mi. MIL lives in MN so we usually just go to her house.
Call Superior Properties. They rent all the large places on the lake in that area. There is also a hotel and lodge just about every two miles between Grand Marais and Duluth. Try calling the Lutsen Lodge for good summer rates. That area is wonderful, we have a place in between Tofte and Lutsen. Have fun! You can send me a personal message if you have any questions.
Oh! Being from there I have a ton of ideas, but my favorite would be The Inn on Lake Superior. Beautiful rooms looking over the boardwalk/Lake Superior and they even do smores on the campfire. There's story time each night for kids and they have free bikes to ride around the area.
