Hi,

I am interested in home schooling my daughter. She is only 19 months old but I was hoping to start getting information, resources and support. I want to find out about programs, group functions and things like that. Since she is an only child I want to make sure she gets lots of interaction with other children as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

When I came to Surprise I could not help but run into home schoolers who were organizing phys ed at the local park (the big one off Bullard). They even had sign up applications available. I think different groups meet on different days of the week, as to not crowd the picnic areas.

We used Arizona Connections Academy.
They provide a wonderful Calvert school ciriculum.
They also sceduled group field trips etc.
It was a fun few years while I home schooled.

I would suggest using one of the online or virtual schools to get your resources for free and for the social networking and group activities.

I'm in my 9th year of homeschooling my four children. Sonlight is my absolute favorite. They have fantastic books! They also have the instructor guides that have all of your lessons planned for you....Here are some ideas that have worked for me when my kids were little. You can adjust these same ideas as they grow older..

Ideas for school!
1. Do a calender at the beginning of each month. You can make all the squares and fill the calender when they are younger and let them decorate it. Then you can go over the days of the week and count the days (practice counting with it). As they get older they can write in the month or a number or more etc. 2. You can have them do journals every day. Have them draw a picture and write about it. Even if they can't write have them write anyway and praise them even if it is scribbles. Then have them tell you what they wrote and you write it on their journal. Always put their name and date on their journals. 3. Have them make a book. Each page will have a different theme. What is the weather like outside? What is their favorite animal? What is their favorite food? What is their favorite book? etc. Have them draw, write, or cut out magazine pictures for each page and then staple them together. 4. You can also keep a portfolio of their work. Take their best work for each month and put them all in a neat little folder or put each month's work in a sheet protector in a folder that they can help decorate! Hope that helps! Good Luck~ Jaimee

Hello. It's never too early to start teaching your kids. (I am a homeschooler.) I started my son when he was 2 and my daughter when she was about the age of your daughter. A GREAT program for kids your daughters age is: www.learningadventures.com My kids LOVED them. They got their own package in the mail every month, loaded with fun educational activities. 9 years later, they still loving the hardcover books that were included in these packages. Now, we use www.sonlight.com I believe they have preschool programs too. They are a wonderful company, easy to use and the kids love learning with it. As for stuff to do with other kids.....There are tons of opportunities. Lots of homeschool groups are in place, here in Arizona. There is also a homeschool PE class that is offered at a reasonable rate, that lots of kids participate in. It is just like PE they would recieve in schools, with a variety of different sports and skills being taught. Just search the internet for homeschool groups in the area and you will find lots of sites to visit. Enjoy homeschooling!!!
